Can I Bring a Study Bible to Basic Training?

I'm going to basic training at Fort Benning and am wondering if I'll be allowed to keep my NKJV Study Bible when I get there. It's a little big - about 2500 pages - heavy and definately not like those relatively small Bibles you see in motels and whatnot. I want to bring it specifically because:

1) I don't agree with other versions of the Bible (New Revised Standard Version, New International Version, etc)

2) I find the language of the King James Version to be a bit difficult to get through. It is definately beautiful in some ways, but not a very good reading Bible in my opinion.

So do you think I'd be able to bring my own Bible without getting it confiscated?

Can I Bring a Study Bible to Basic Training?
According to the rules, I don't think they can take it from you. However, you WILL NOT have time to read it and you will probably be harassed by your drill sergeant for having it. Doing *anything* to set yourself apart from the crowd will make basic training really suck for you. My advice is to strictly take what is on the list they give you, but it is your call.
Reply:If you're partial to the NKJV translation I would recommend getting a pocket size version. It may not have all the side notes, concordance etc., but it will be easy to carry around and store. Also, I've found that I get my best studying done when I'm not necessarily reading the commentary that many Study Bibles have in them, so it can be refreshing just to read the text (without commentary). However, like most people have said, you probably won't have much time to spend reading.

Best of luck.
Reply:When I went to Basic Training, I forgot my Bible, but not to worry, because when you attend the Church services during BCT, which will be on Sundays, you can obtain a pocket Bible through your service. But you should have no issue bringing yours in with you, I had Battle Buddies that brought Bibles in with them, and they did not get confiscated. Just for your FYI.... Have fun with Basic, don't fret, it's not bad if you enjoy what you do....
Reply:There's no such thing as an atheist during combat. The religious person in the platoon is usually the one everyone turns to for divine intervention when things are looking grim. They will embrace it not confiscate it. Good luck over there and God bless.
Reply:Yes, you can bring it, but I wouldn't look forward to much time to read it. Were I you I'd look at bringing something like a small pocket version of the New Testament that you can keep in a pocket and bring out when you have a short break.

Yes, you can carry it as personal kit.
Reply:Yes, you can bring it. There was many people I went to boot with that were able to keep all different types of religious readings.

In fact, we were all given Gideons Bibles whether we were Christian or not!
Reply:Yes, you can bring your own personal bible. You have rights to your own religious beliefs.
Reply:i don't see how they could confiscate it

bandit - in context "kill" means murdering. the bible makes a clear distinction between murdering and warfare
Reply:oh they best let you bring your own personal Bible or you can contact me and i'll go to bat for you! i'm serious.
Reply:Don't know for sure, but none of my friends were able to bring anything to basic.
Reply:take a small pocket bible they are allowed.
Reply:Bring it, if it is thick enough it might slow down a bullet.
Reply:I don't understand. You just contradicted yourself.
Reply:AS long as it doesn't have a Dillinger inside...LOL!
Reply:You won't need one.

Your drill sergeant takes the place of jesus.
Reply:yes u can and benning is so pretty u will love it
Reply:Your Bible won't be confiscated but you probably should look for a smaller version. You will probably have to leave it with your personal belongings (clothing, etc) because it will be too large to be convenient for you to march with when you do go to church. Honestly, the less you stand out, the better in Basic Training so go ahead and get a smaller version and have your family bring you your beloved version when you graduate basic. This way you won't have to "explain" yourself if they see you have this huge Bible because drill sergeants are not interested in hearing anything other than YES DRILL SERGEANT! :-) Good luck and stay safe!!
Reply:...You are aware that the Bible explicitly says "thou shalt not kill," correct?

And you're joining the military?
