How can I begin bible studies with my children?

I have three children. One is a toddler, one is 8 and one is 13.

I want to begin bible study with them. What is the best childrens bible I can get.

Are there any good sites out there, to give me tips? Do they have fun activities that we can do together?

Any other advice would be great.

Thanks!

go to faithforthefamily.com. They have excellent material for the home.
Reply:They do sell children's bibles at

cbd.com (Christian Book Distributors)

It's been a long time....I own one of these bibles....my kids are grown up now. Forget the name.......
Reply:Do you go to a bible believing church ? If not look for one .Having them with children their own age in Sunday school will help encourage them . Ask them for advise or just start reading them the bible ,start in the new testament . "Train up a child in the way he should go ,and when he is old he will not depart from it ". Proverbs 22:6
Reply:You want to begin bible study with an eight year old and a toddler? You do realise that doing so will render them unable to make an objective choice about religion later in life, right? You'd basically be removing their freedom of religion. How do you sleep at night?

And there had better not be 'fun activities'. Don't you see how combining religious indoctrination with games is a form of classical conditioning? If you do this, then you're brainwashing your kids in every sense of the word.

Consider this: If you were to take 1000 people who were taught Islam as children, and 1000 people who were taught Christianity, which group would have more Muslims? The first one, right? And the second would have more Christians? Clearly the religion someone is taught as a child has an extremely strong effect on what that person believes for the rest of their life. Why don't you just wait for them to grow up and let them make their own decisions? Unless you have some evidence for your beliefs (and the bible is not evidence in any sense of the word) then you're being extremely irresponsible.
Reply:The Review and Herald Publishing Association has published a series of ten books called the Bible Story by Arthur S. Maxwell. The series begins at Genesis and continues though the Bible. I read them to my own children as a bed time story every night.

Reply:You should expose them to all religion and let them make their own choices...

But yeah, the above websites are good.
Reply:Comment this part with them, it will immediately give them a feeling of peace, love, tolerance and forgiveness.

Then you might decide to take them to a science museum instead of promoting delusional mental disorders...

From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB)

There are some good Christian Links there that will help you.
Reply:Great question, I wish there where more people like you that is concerned with giving their children the best education anyone can have. I recommend using the book “Listening to the Great Teacher,” . The following is from the first page.

A Word to You Parents

The love of parents for their children is a wonderful quality. Like most parents, you are undoubtedly concerned with giving your children a good start in life.

But we are sure you realize that there is more to this than simply providing food and clothing for your children and sending them off to school to be educated. To face life successfully, children need moral guidance, principles by which to live. And they need these from their tender years on. Heartbreaking things can and do happen where children receive help too late.

Perhaps, like many parents, you feel somewhat at a loss as to where to begin and what to teach your children. Really, the best principles that can be found anywhere are found in the Bible. Instruction based on the Bible has definite advantages. By it, children come to realize that what they are being told is not just their father’s or mother’s idea. It is what their Creator says; it is his will. This gives a strength to parental counsel that cannot be equaled in any other way.

In the pages of the Bible God encourages parents to take a personal interest in impressing right principles on the minds of their children. It may seem easier to pass this responsibility on to someone else. But doing that means missing out on a very enriching experience. It means giving up the opportunity to reach your child’s heart in a way that you and no one else ever could.

In many homes today parents and children are steadily drifting apart. As children grow older, parents often find it increasingly hard to talk with them about things that matter the most. This book, “Listening to the Great Teacher,” is designed to help to prevent such a situation in your home. It is designed so that you and your children can read it together. But, more than this, it is designed to stimulate conversation between parents and children.

This is because it calls for a response on the part of the children. You will find many well-placed questions in the printed material. When you come to these, you will observe a dash (—), to remind you to pause and encourage your child to express himself. Children like to be involved. Without that involvement a child’s interest quickly fades. More importantly, though, these questions will help you to learn what is on your child’s mind. Of course, the child may come out with answers that are far from right. But the printed material that follows each question is designed to help the child to develop wholesome patterns of thinking.

When the child learns to read, encourage him to read the book to you, and at times to himself. The more he reads it, the more its good counsel will be impressed on his mind and heart. But, to strengthen the bonds of affection and respect between both of you parents and your child, by all means read the book together, and do it regularly.

Some Bible texts are cited at the end of each chapter. Why not take time to look these up together? You and your children can thereby learn to use the Bible well. Explain what these scriptures are saying. Help make clear any difficult words in the scriptures that you look up, as is done in this book. Doing this, you will be directing your child’s attention to the finest source of guidance in life, the Bible.

We sincerely hope this book will help you and your family to mold your lives so as to be pleasing to the Creator, to your eternal blessing.

Reply:The Children's Bible is a classic book that has been around since most of us who are now parents -- were children.

Try this for resources for home bible study:
Reply:Start by giving them an introduction to ALL religions. Make sure you tell them that there is no more evidence for one than any other. Make sure you tell them that "faith" in one religion is no better than faith in any other.

Anything less would be a form of child abuse.

Go to the prep school category.

Great lessons and activities.
Reply:Why teach them about something that can't be proven. Take them to the science place, museums, read to them about ancestry or taking care of the Earth.
Reply:you should teach them art, history and world religions. Educate them, don't indoctrinate them in your views, they are individuals, let them choose.
Reply:I used to teach Sunday School and CCD. One of the best sources I ever found - and I used it with my Goddaughter were the books for these classes. You can normally find them in Christian supply stores.

They are filled with verses from the bible, easy to understand lessons and a lot of activites while being very colorful. This would be really good for your toddler and 8 year old.

For the 13 year old I suggest you set aside time, even 20 mintues a couple times a week to talk about Jesus. There are teen bibles out there. Take your teen to a book store and tell them they can pick out there own bible. Allow them to look through everything and get a bible that reaches out to them.

The other thing you can do with your teen is down load a reading plan for the bible. Some even come with a reading plan already in the bible. Work on this with your teen - 20 minutes a day, talking about the passages that are to be read.
Reply:Go to a Christian bookstore and ask, they should have a good selection. Or do a google search, there are great resources online and a lot are free. They have Bible games, puzzles etc. as well as lesson outlines. Google "free Christian games for children" etc. and you will get a lot of information.

Good luck and ignore the silly answers you're sure to get on this one. I admire you for cultivating your kids' spiritual life at home and not leaving it all for Sunday.
Reply:Start with a tape of Christian music especially those which are versed in the Word.

Then teach the Word in the New Testament 10 minutes at a time for they lose interest quikly.
Reply:Why dont you pick up a science book instead?
Reply:Start with "This is a big book of bronze age myths" and go from there
Reply:read them the tao te ching
