...of anything in the bible that might be considered 'extreme' ? Thanks, in advance for all your help. I just really want these kids to listen for a change.
I'm thinking of doing an 'extreme bible study' to appeal to the teenagers at church. Can anyone think...
Mass killings are pretty extreme.
Reply:How about giving them something to look forward to in their lives - something like a second Exodus, whether it be spiritual or literal. Ask them to prepare for the lesson by doing their homework by reading about the Exodus and ask them to imagine going on the same kind of Exodus, what would be some of the things that would cause them concern, happiness, fears - in other words, that they put themselves in the shoes (which, btw, never wore out for those 40 years) of the Israelites in the desert. Do they think it could happen again in some measure? Ask for their comments on the following:
Isaiah 11:15-16
Zechariah 10:10-11
Micah 7:15
Revelation 11:6 and 15:3
Reply:I suppose the story of adam and lillith is a bit extreme, but I don't suppose most people want their kids to know about Lillith, so maybe thats not such a good idea.
Maybe the old standby of handing each kid a helium filled balloon and when they memorized the bible verse, they can recite it using daffy duck voices?
Reply:It depends on how you present the stories, I suppose. You can present Joseph as "extreme" in his bravery and endurance. Esther was extreme in her belief to do the right thing, regardless of the potential cost to herself. Both, of course, were extreme in their faith in God and he provided extreme results in turn-- Joseph became a pharaoh and Esther a queen! :)
Reply:Everything in the Bible can be extreme. My favorite extreme stories are the ones that people can relate to easier...for instance, how queen Sheba, a pagan queen, went to the wisest of the Jewish kings to hear his wisdom regardless of his faith.
Another extreme would be what Abraham did...he was ready to slay his son in sacrifice to God because he didn't dare question what God asked of him. That's some extreme stuff right there.
Reply:I don't like the name. Extreme bible study sounds like it's rigorous, or that the studying aspect is "extreme". That's definitely not what you want to go for, especially since school is almost out. Maybe just "extreme bible" works.
As for specific passages--any of Jesus' miracles; Satan's tempting of Jesus in the desert; the Passion; the miracles of the apostles; revealation; any Old Testament battle stories; all of Genesis and Exodus...yeah.
Reply:Re-enact Judges 19:
Judges19:1 Now it happened in those days that there was no king in Israel. And it came about that a certain Levite was residing for a time in the remotest parts of the mountainous region of E´phra·im. In time he took as his wife a concubine from Beth´le·hem in Judah.
Judges 19:29 Then he entered his house and took the slaughtering knife and laid hold of his concubine and cut her up according to her bones into twelve pieces and sent her into every territory of Israel.

Reply:well friend it depends ofwhat you consider extreme, www.kjvbiblestudy.com the are 126 Bible lessons, there is a 20 lesson Bible doctrine series, you can print them right off the webb site, theey are all Free. They are real easy to teach from, they each have an average of 20 questions, a true false section, and a scripture memorization
Reply:our church let's the kids (in youth group) do the devotions, it's nice and it might get them to listen, we also do youth Sundays where we run the WHOLE service. You could always preach about the tests of faith, or David and Goliath, or Sodom and Gamora, those were pretty extreme.
Reply:one thing that always impressed me was that the Israelites who spent 40 years in the desert following Moses could have actually made the journey to the promised land in 2 weeks instead of 40 years. so this might show young people how important it is to be obedient to God and show some of the consequences to not obeying God. Odd facts like that I think might be concrete enough to affect them. Good luck ;)
Reply:there once was 2 suns .

Reply:You could talk about how people know almost every bear brand and how they don't know all the ten commandments. Theres videos on cristian websites like godtube.com and show that people know more bear brands than the ten commandments, a simple thing that most people think they know. I had this in my bible study and it was suprising
Reply:But David was far from perfect. When he sinned, he sinned big. David became infatuated with Bath-sheba, a woman married to David’s soldier, Uriah. David had an affair with Bath-sheba and she became pregnant. He compounded his sins by trying to cover them up. He arranged for Uriah to be sent into a particularly hot battle where Uriah was killed. (2 Samuel 11)
Reply:Ezekiel 37 (story of the valley of dry bones)
Judges 12 (shibboleth--always fascinated me)
Luke 16 (Lazarus rising from the dead)
1 Samuel 17 (David and Goliath)
1 Kings (Solomon and the two would-be mothers)
Reply:You'll just end up looking foolish, like you're pandering to them, kids don't fall for adults trying to be "cool". They just don't.
Honestly, the only thing that would make it cool, bring free beer, that'll get them there. I don't think you'd want to go that route and neither would I but that would be a sure fire thing.
Reply:Yes. Take several bibles to an industrial shredder. Have them do a cross cut pass leaving quarter inch squares. Haul that back to the church and then award Jars of Clay tickets to those who come up with a readable verse. Tell them their place in Heaven depends on winning those tickets.
I have seen it attempted.
Reply:A number of things come to mind:
The writing on the wall and the fall of Babylon.
All those problems with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
The crossing of the Red Sea. You can show them the chariot wheels that they found on the bottom of the Red Sea recently.
How about the 24,000 that died because they partied.
So many things.
The 3 Hebrew teenagers in the fire saved by the one that where there with them.
Just start reading the Old Testament to them - it's full of blood and gore!!!
Reply:Study revelation first and how politics and recent events point in that direction. Pray to God and ask that He give you the best direction to go in.
Reply:Hebrews 10:24-28
ALL of 1 John
Matthew 7:13+
those are some pretty 'extreme' verses. They really shocked me.
Reply:How about the truth outside the book, things that it caused in the past? The Crusades, the Inquisition? Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it (ex: George W. Bush)
Reply:nothing more extreme than the battle for our souls....do a study on ephesians6:10-18,and teach our young ones what it takes to be a christian.teach them about the enemy who never rests.
Reply:God destroying two cities. God murdering the whole world population except one family. Lots more extreme and cruel stuff to go with that too.
Reply:How about Lot's daughters getting their father drunk and then having sex with him in order to have kids. That should gross them out.
Reply:Kids especially the boys just love David and Goliath.
Reply:That Apocolypse is always good for some extreme material.
I also dig all those plagues.
Reply:every great revival since Paul wrote it has started with the book of Romans. We decided tonite to start expanding our youth out reach and Romans will be the focus.
Reply:Surely the whole thing is extreme.
Reply:What age are the "teens"? If they're a little older, say 15-17, I would go with the story of Samson. Beautiful women being his weakness, etc.
Reply:revelations
Reply:It's hard enough just being a teenager, getting thru school and all. So don't make things worse for them, eh?
Reply:Daniel in the Lions' Den...Jesus' death on the cross...
