They always want to study their book(s) and then look for a few verses in the bible. Are they not allowed to study the Bible book by book with non-witnesses??
Why is it so hard to get a Jehovah's Witness to study a book of the bible with me?
They don't read scriptures with out being told what they mean first. They are trained to think like the Watchtower Society, and forbidden to listen to the opposing evidence.
Doesn't make sense since they come knocking on doors trying to get people to listen to what they believe.
There is an abundance of facts proving the Watchtower Society to be a false prophet in the sources below, but only people who've never been indoctrinated by the WTS will actually look into it.
Reply:This is the main signs of a cult. They enforce their propoganda and can only allow scripture to be read in congress with thier "extra biblical" guides. This keeps them from just studying the Bible and learning the truth. Which would set them free from the bondage of error from which they are in.
Reply:I am sure you will find some who will study the bible with you. However, their bible is very different from what you most likely will use. So why would you want to study with them?
Reply:We study by subjects.
When you look up all the verses pretaining to a single subject we find the bible interprets itself.
To study "salvation", your way, you would have to read every verse in all the bible and keep track of those that discuss 'salvation'.
The bible study aids have done this already.
You remind me of the gentleman who wanted to study, but using only the bible.
When I arrived with just my bible, he had several pages of notes, from his 'bible classes', and several reference books on his table, and said:
"You can only use the bible".
.
Reply:They are told not to, studying any other religious material will contaminate them even may get them to question their own religion.
Reply:Because they have so warped what Scripture says, that they won't believe anything that contradicts what they have been taught!
Reply:Not sure why, since this is what we do. Currently every week we study the Bible book of revalation, we take it a few verses a week, and spend an hour woking at it.
Reply:Oh, that is not a difficult thing to do at all. Jehovah's Witnesses love studying the Bible! Of course, that particular method is very time-consuming – book by book and verse by verse, I mean. But certainly it can be done. Grandpa, above, made a nice offer. I would like to look in on the study as well. Will you take him up on this offer to study the Bible with you? Book by book? I will follow along in my NIV and King James. Gramps suggested Corinthians. That is an excellent start. Do you have a particular book in mind?
Interestingly enough, topical study (the methodology employed by Jehovah's Witnesses) is the most progressive method of learning scriptural truths. And by quoting from different parts of the Bible on the same subject, one draws on several inspired witnesses to prove the truthfulness of a teaching. Jesus used this method: during his Sermon on the Mount. In his Sermon on the Mount, he makes 21 quotes from the Hebrew Scriptures: namely, 3 from Exodus, 2 from Leviticus, 1 from Numbers, 6 from Deuteronomy, 1 from 2 Kings, 4 from Psalms, 3 from Isaiah and 1 from Jeremiah. All in the Sermon on the Mount! Paul also utilized this method: At Romans 15:7-13, in teaching them the scriptural truth of the need to welcome non-Israelites, Paul quoted from the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms. Jehovah's Witnesses firmly believe that this teaching model left by both the Lord Jesus and by the apostle Paul (personally selected by Jesus) is an example worth imitating. I am sure all Christians would agree.

Reply:They aren't trying to teach you the bible - they are trying to teach you their religion.
Reply:Yes. My second mommy, before she became a Witness, she accepted a bible study, but it had to be from her bible only. The witness taught her the truth from her very own KJV bible. Of course as time went on she eventually saw that all literature printed by the Watchtower society is bible based anyway. Today, she's a proud Jehovah's Witness and advocate of the truth.
Reply:Because Satan doesnt like God's Word
Reply:It's good to study the Bible. No matter what Bible you study from ALL truth should be in ALL Bibles.
By the way, I would like to participate in yours and grandpa's group.
Reply:of COURSE we will study the bible with you.
i will, just to see your agenda. please set up a small group, here in yahoo is ok, where you and i are the only ones who can post, but anyone can 'look in' if they wish.
do you wish to start with 1 corinthians or isaiah?
gramps.
Reply:they are afraid that you will find a verse in the bible contradicting what they say to you, so they do not like to study with you. If they can speak to you about their faith and then you discover a flaw in their teaching, they have just lost a convert. they do not follow the bible entirely. they twist the philosophies and add things to the scriptures.
Reply:they are a religion set in theri ways. Sorry to tell yyou this....they are not there to discuss or learn, but to convert. they are not interested in anything else.
Reply:They only want you to see their doctrines and little phrases they use to support them, not the truth of what the bible actually teaches
They take little pieces of the scriptures to try to support whatthey are saying, but when you read the whole chapter yourself you see that it is not about whatthey were trying to make you believe at all
Reply:Why don't both of you stop trying to convert others?
