"Give me her phone number because she deserves to be with a Christian guy."
How would you respond?
Would your answer change if it was your spouse he was talking about?
Yes there are jerks like this in the world and they do frequent interdenominational Bible Studies.
You're in a mixed Bible Study and someone tells you "You aren't Christian, but your girlfriend is, so ..."
The first thought is that I'd punch him in his nose. But then again, I guess that wouldn't very Godly. I would be surprised that no one jumped to defend you, honestly. If I heard someone say that to someone else, I'd be quick to jump in.
Failing that, I guess I'd just say: "Sure, you can have it. We're very happy together and she doesn't dig jackasses."
Reply:Well, I'm Christian lol, so doesn't really apply I suppose.
But I know I have made a choice before on relationships because a girl I was interested in refused to convert. Different denomination is one thing, but she outright rejected Christianity. Ok to be friends and we still are, but relationship is a different matter. A Christian should not get involved that way with a non-Christian.
Reply:I am a Christian but if I weren't this is how I would handle the situation.
I would probably tell the guy in a very polite way that she is a big girl and can make her own decisions. Then I would explain to him that I care for her very much and that is why I am attending a bible study to find out more about her religion. Then tell him if she decided to be with a Christian, that I would want to make sure she found a good one, not one who is lustful and coveting things that do not belong to him. Then I would explain to him, in a polite way, that if he wanted to pursue this any further that I am not a Christian and I will not be turning the other cheek.
Sorry you found someone like that. Not a very good example of what a Christian should be.
Reply:Hmm, well, not being a guy ...
this is what I would imagine a good Catholic fellow would say, though:
"Yes, she certainly does deserve that, and that's why she's with me."
Now if he said that about someone else's spouse, I would severely question his own "Christian" credential.
