i am 13 so dont give me some really complicated way of memorization!!!
What is the best way to study the Bible and actually learn and memorize facts?
I'll tell you what worked for me.
Just read it. Start from one end to the other. Repeat this over and over. It takes a long time.
I would recommend starting in the New Testament.
Keep a note book and take notes such as baptism I write that at the top of a page and as I'm reading and I cross a topic I have written to know more about, I write the scripture in that page and maybe a little of the word so in future references I know what that scripture is talking about.
Example:
Baptism
Mark 16:16 believeth and baptized shall be saved
Matthew 28: 18-20 teach all nations baptizing them
and so on this helps me esp. when something is brought up and I can go to my notes if I can't remember.
My notebook is the same size as my bible and I keep it in the back of my bible cover so whether I am at church or where ever I can add to the notes on any topic.
At the present time I have about 60 topics about various things that may come up. I just add over the years and never stop studying and learning.
The facts are often more than just one scripture. Sometimes it is the entire chapter.
Continual reading and studying is nessecary. When you know the storys and how the people of God handled every situation and how God directed them you'll begin to understand the mind of God. When you get to that place you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that with God nothing is impossible.
I don't know if I can stress enough the importance to continue reading and studying. If you could set aside maybe just a few minutes every day it would be very benifical to you.
You'll soon find that when you need the scriptures God will bring it to your rememberance.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself aproved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
The Holy Bible (King James Version) is the only book I read. The King James Version was translated from the original text. Other translations have been weakened down and have lost some meanig. I know some people say read other versions but you will find that in the long run it will be far more productive to read the KJV. I have read it through many times I have a strong love for the Word of God. I hope you will develope what I have. I can't think of a better thing I would want to study. I'll pray for you, that God will help you.
I've answered nearly 400 questions and I don't know of one that I have been more concerned about. I hope you will recieve what you are looking for.
Hope this helps you, it's pretty simple.
If I can be of anymore help or if you have more questions email me. I'll be more than happy to help you in anyway I can.
Reply:Get yourself an English Standard Version Study Bible, or a Teen study bible. There are notes and explanations from many scholars about the history of the passage you are reading. It also has information about the book and the author too. It also has information about the Greek or Hebrew (or Aramaic) language which are the languages the Bible was written in.
You can e-mail me with any questions...I can get you more resources.

Reply:FACTS? Facts in the Bible? There are more facts in a story about Tooth Fairy, than in the Bible.
You are 13, you should be trying really hard to learn math and history, English and science and other subjects in school and have fun as a normal kid, and not waste your time on useless "facts" from the Bible.
Reply:You don't need to memorize facts. That's not the point. That won't make you any closer to God or increase your chances of getting into heaven. What you need to do is understand what it means to have a relationship with God. Don't confuse intellectualism with faith. Knowing a lot about the bible doesn't make you "spiritual". Even Satan knows all about the bible...that doesn't make him good!
Get yourself a good Study bible. One with a concordance in the back (a section that tells you where to look up different topics). Get a version that is in plain english that you can understand (New international version, American Standard version, The Message...all good versions)
Then I recommend you check out this book: Bruce and Stan's Guide to God. It's out of print but you can get it really cheap on Amazon.com. Also look at the book Bruce and Stan's guide to the Bible. Both of these books are written for people in just your situation.
If you want to learn about a particular topic in the bible, go to a Christian book store and look at some of the short bible study booklets. They walk you through different topics. Find something that relates to your life. Like look for one about what the bible says about dating or about relationships or money. Stuff like that. Make your study something that you can use in your day to day life.
I teach my students (that are your age, by the way) that your bible is your Owner's Manual. It will answer any question you have for the rest of your life. It's not there to memorize, but to use daily to help you with life's difficult questions and to help you learn more about God.
If you just want to memorize facts, here is what you do:
1. Read them, several times
2. Write them down, several times
3. Repeat them out loud every day
4. Use them in your life every day.
If you do that , you will memorize a huge number of fact
Reply:Are you able to buy a Study Bible? They cost $29 to $39.
Pray before every attempt to read and study the Bible. The Holy Spirit is able to make Bible verses come back to your memory whenever you need them.
You are one of the smartest 13 yr. olds by attempting to study the Bible.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
Make sure you can memorize John 3:16
Reply:you just need to earnestly drill verses into your head...they stick well if they make sense to your daily life...in other words, when you know they make sense to you...God bless
Reply:I am a teacher. The best way that I have found to memorize is through actions and song.
For example: Ephesians 6:10-11 was my memory verse for my class last week. As we were saying it we did motions.
Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
I start out saying the words and teaching the motions. After a few times of repetition I just make the motions and see if the class can recite the words on their own.
You can do this for just about everything. I used this technique for helping my children memorize the U.S states and their capitals...you just have to be creative with the motions.
Like...Topeka, Kansas. My family will never forget the capital of that state.
Just have fun and be creative...it really helps.

Reply:To study the bible, read it and try to figure out what it is really saying. Maybe get one that is annotated..
To learn facts you would have to utilize some other book.
Reply:Its the first thing I do when I wake up get my bible out read five chapters and take notes on each chapter good luck and hope and pray you stick with it maybe start with proverbs it tells how to live a good life and what to do that is right in the sight of God.I also mark it down on my calender that I have studyed the bible wouldn't want to see any days missing that I haven't studied it.
Reply:How fortunate you are to be thinking of this already at the tender age of thirteen... Are you ever on the right track to avoid a lot of pain!!! Congratulations for a wonderful decision which will prove to be the best one you ever made in your whole life... As to how to memorize facts... it would largely depend on which topics interest you the most... or what personal problems you might wish to eradicate from your life... and would therefore want to remind yourself constantly of what the word of God has to say about it... Right? If you care to, I'd give you some clues about that if you want to but for now... I'll just give you some real important basics that you'd love to use as a defense for your own faith in the only book on earth which claims divine inspiration... and I'll be back with that... What you ask for reminds me of the wisest person who ever walked the earth besides Jesus, King Solomon, who asked God for wisdom... God was so pleased with him that He gave him more wisdom than he could ever need (except when it came to women! he always had it right on... such as when he decided which mother was lying or telling the truth about who's baby this was... and said: "Cut the baby in half and give one half to each mother!" The impostor smiled at the idea, whereas the real mother exclaimed: "No! Stop! She is the mother! Let her have the child!" Therefore the wise king gave the child to its mother... Like I said, I'll be back! with more of how you can put God's word itself on your heart and mind!!! As I can't think of anything better to put there! John 6:44 must apply to you big time!!! Would you please check it out... John 3:16 as well... is always a good place to start... with John 17:3... Now if you don't know these already... Look at the last two... One is
John 3:16 and the other is 17:3...
Can you think of a way to connect the two in your mind???
Both are in the book of John, who apparently, was the one Jesus had the most affection for... as he was real close to him... and he was the one sitting next to him at the last supper! (the smallest one) Both have the same number "3" and the other number is just different from the other by "1" (16 + 1 = 17)
So, you see, by making association of both the topic (Jesus) and the numbers, your brain tends to remember better and it because of the (work) that you did, you have programmed your own computer (brain) to put the information in your long-term memory! where it will stay as long as you want to keep it there!
The first thing that you want to do before you even open the book, is to ask God for a part or portion of his spirit to be with you as you read his word, so that you will be better able to understand the wisdom of it all and just how to apply it in your daily activities... Always in the name of His son Jesus Christ, you must ask for whatever it is that you ask in prayer... and remember as you make sure of all things (Thessalonians), that God has to be worship in spirity and truth John 4:24 and never with things He truly hates such as icons, images, statues and or man-made prayers... So only in your heart (spirit) and in truth (in the name of his son, Jesus, who made it possible for us to regain the everlasting life that Adam had ruined for us all, by his (Jesus') sacrifice!
Reply:As I began to study scriptures I did it as we are instructed in the book of Isaiah line upon line verse by verse precept upon precept....
As I matured I aquired a study bible (I use Bullinger KJV Companion Bible) and also a copy of Strongs coded to the Hebrew and Greek.
As we grow and mature in the word there are scriptures that will stick in our minds and come to memory yet I don't believe our Heavenly Father expects us to quote all the scriptures verbatem and commit them to memory (quite a feat) from Genesis to Revelation.
It's quite amazing though how some scriptures do stay with us and it's my understanding then that when we have sincerely committed ourselves to studying and searching the scriptures led by the Holy Spirit who promised us that He would lead us into all truth those important scriptures pop into our minds at the time we need them.
All praise and glory to our Heavenly Father for your continued interest and pray He reveals His wisdom and the "facts" to you in a profound way.
Reply:I think it is great that you want to learn the Bible. If you read the Bible 30 minutes a day you will read it twice a year. If you want to remember scripture, write it down in a notebook as you read it. Then go over it later. Each time you read the Bible, see how it relates to your life.
For example, "yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall not fear." You may not be close to death but you could be going through something hard, scary or stressfull, and this passage tells you not to be afraid because if you believe and trust in God, He will help you through it.
Reply:Awww....
Now's a great time to begin to study on your own. I just read it chapter by chapter... and wrote down scriptures that impacted me or that I felt I could reference at another time.
.
Reply:Pray and ask God what He would like you to learn, or pray and read something that interests you alot. I am interested in the rapture and I can memorize scripture, although not always exactly as it is, but I can remember the chapter and verses, such as 1Thessalonians 4:16-18 and 1Corinthians 15:51-52 and what it is about and I have also just by practice and witnessing, learned where all the verses that tell you to become born again (saved) are, Such as John 3:3, and John 3:16, etc. Everyone has their own way and it will come to you. Just pray about it. Also once you are born again, the Bible seems so easy to understand. Before I was saved it really didn't make sense to me, but now it just seems so easy to read.
Reply:least complicated and works-I have memorized over 200 bible verses.
get a King James Bible-it is poetic and made to memorize
other versions are like trying to memorize the newspaper.
get little cards index cut into quarters-have an elastic band to keep them together.
then write out a verse on one-with the reference Bible verse and subject/topic word the best one you think goes with it below
--------------------------------------...
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I may not sin against thee.
Psalm 119:11 memorize(topic)
______________________________________...
on the back side write
25 20 15 10 5 1
the first day say it 25 times by memory-if forget or unsure look and make sure your gettin it right. if you have to look or make a mistake dont count it but keep the same number and finish and circle the number
the next day do it 20 times-and if you would like begin a new one at 25 times
when you get to 1 do it for a week-and then review once a week
once you get the pattern down its a piece of cake -and works perfectly
most important first is that you have Jesus in your heart=
learning to have my soul fulfilled in prince of peace =Isaiah 9:6 to be born the Son and almighty God, the prince of peace. life is a natural happening-=
what helped me most is believing in truth-Jesus says I am the way the truth and the life, no one cometh unto heaven but by me, repent of your sins -even one lie and let me into your heart to be your friend and help you. John 14:6, John 3 and Revelation 3:19%26amp;20 where Jesus also says he unconditionally loves us, "I love you, and knock on your heart door to come in deliver from sins (even one lie) and be your friend, if you repent and ask me in."
do great and I am prayin for you-if you like try other 'easier ways' but keep a copy of this way-it will be the one way that works, and I am very very proud of you, David
Reply:I found out that I know quite a bit of scripture..you know how Iearned it all??
From songs we sing in Church! You would be amazed how many of our songs are scripture...many..maybe most of them.
Its great to know that...I bet you know alot but don't realize it.
The only other way, is to find scriptures that really apply to your life and write them down..say them over and over till you have them.
Reply:Pray the Word out loud and in spirit. Sometimes make a song out of it. Sing it. Singing is spiritual. Let God write His love in your heart.
Reply:When I was 13 and seeking, I sought out an interlinear bible, which had the original hebrew and greek texts.
So, I learned Koine Greek by the time I was 15, and Hebrew when I was 17. (Hebrew was harder for me.)
But as far as "normal" ways of learning the Bible, find a good study bible that breaks down each book into an outline. Study what happens in each part of the outline.
Keep in mind that the bible is a HUGE book, with a ton of history and genealogies in it (among other things). It will take a lot of study and dedication to master, and you will know more than most pastors.
May you be blessed in your studying!
Reply:read it and re-read the passages that you want to memorize
Reply:Go to a christian store and get some memory cards;practice with those and you will begin to know the Bible better.
Reply:Greetings!
Read small passages and attempt to understand but above all ask God for the answer. Just sit their and meditate on it.
Reply:Lectio Divina
Method
Lectio is typically practiced daily for one continuous hour. A selection from the Holy Scriptures is chosen ahead of time, often as a daily progression through a particular book of the Bible.
Time
Selecting a time for lectio divina is important. Typical methods are to pray for one hour in the morning, or to divide it into two half-hour periods, one in the morning and one in the evening. The key is to pre-select the time that will be devoted to the prayer, and to keep it. Using the same time every day leads to a daily habit of prayer that becomes highly effective.
Place
The place for prayer is to be free from distractions. This means it should be isolated from other people, telephones, visual distractions, etc. Some find a religious icon to be helpful. The same place should be used for lectio if possible, especially as one first begins to practice it. Familiarity with a location reduces the possibility of distraction away from the prayer. Some practitioners conduct other devotions, such as praying before the Catholic Eucharist, as a preparation for Lectio Divina.
Preparation
Prior to reading, it is important to engage in a transitional activity that takes one from the normal state of mind to a more contemplative and prayerful state. A few moments of deep, regular breathing and a short prayer inviting the Holy Spirit to guide the prayer time helps to set the tone and improve the effectiveness of the lectio.
Once the stage is set it is time to begin the prayer. There are four phases of the prayer, which do not necessarily progress in an ordered fashion. One may move between different phases of the prayer very freely as the Spirit guides.
The Four Moments
Lectio
Read the passage slowly several times.
Meditatio
Reflect on the text of the passage, thinking about how to apply to one's own life. Gravitate to any particular phrase or word that seems to be of particular import. This should not be confused with exegesis, but is a very personal reading of the Scripture and application to one's own life.
Oratio
Respond to the passage by opening the heart to God. This is not primarily an intellectual exercise, but more of the beginning of a conversation with God.
Contemplatio
Listen to God. This is a freeing oneself from one's own thoughts, both mundane and holy. It is about hearing God talk to us. Opening our mind, heart and soul to the influence of God. Any conversation must allow for both sides to communicate, and this most unfamiliar act is allowing oneself to be open to hearing God speak.
Reply:Don't waste your time.
If you want facts study your math text book.
Reply:Try thinking for yourself.
Reply:Don't dear, it's a waste of time. You should study science, math and logic instead.
Reply:Nothing in the Bible has been proven a fact. As of April 2007 it is one of the most read fiction books on the market. But it does give us a code of ethics to live by.
Reply:I think if you read the Bible daily and attend Sunday School or a youth group Bible study you will begin to memorize things without even realizing it. Sometime somebody will say something about a Bible verse and you will follow it up with the next verse, or a similar one. Trust me, being daily in the Word is best.
Reply:Don't look to the bible for facts.
Reply:Impossible, the bible has no facts...justy fiction.
