Does anyone know where I can find a Small NIV Bible?

I am interested in purchasing a small, almost pocket size Bible to carry with me wherever I go. I owuld like it to be NIV and not a study bible or anything. Just a plain NIV Bible. It would also be a plus if it was not too expensive. Any help would be appreciated!

Does anyone know where I can find a Small NIV Bible?

Where in the bible is agape written?

This question was asked in bible study and I'm not able to find the answer and I need help. The question was asked where is the word agape (not love) found in the bible?

Where in the bible is agape written?
I THINK YOU WILL FIND IT IN JOHN 13:21-34 NOT JUST ABOUT LOVE, BUT THE LOVE FEAST, OR THE LAST SUPER.

Should every Christian be in a small group for bible study & accountability?

Yes... The local church itself was normally a "small group" in New Testament times. The church often met in members homes and was thus forced to meet in smaller groups by a lack of available space.

Today's "mega-churches" allow too many people and situations to 'fall through the cracks' where the pattern we see in the New Testament would have likely prevented it.

A study was performed several years ago which indicated that almost all "growing churches" included weekly (or more often) meetings of 20 or fewer adults. A variety of possibilities existed for these meetings, like conventional small groups in homes during the week, "Sunday school" classes, etc. but they existed in most growing churches.

Should every Christian be in a small group for bible study %26amp; accountability?
Yes. You won't find truth in Churchianity. Bless the creators name (YHVH)
Reply:I think that every person should have and accountability partner.

Why are Bible-fundamentalists encouraged to study the Bible, but not its origins or church history?

I would think knowing about how the Christian church began, how the Bible was compiled, who compiled the Bible and early Christian beliefs would behoove anyone who claims to be Christian. But apparently, this only seems to be important to Catholics. I guess that's why they are Catholic, rather than some other form of Christianity which began anytime from the 16th century to the present time.

Why are Bible-fundamentalists encouraged to study the Bible, but not its origins or church history?
To understand the problem you need to understand Luther's problem. Luther would have sorrowed at what he created. In fact, toward the end of his life he did. Fundamentalists are Protestant zealots. It is always useful to look at any zealot or group of zealots because they believe the party line in its truest and most literal sense. This is true whether we are talking John Paul II, St. Francis of Assisi, Meno Simmons, or Fundamentalists as a group.

Luther had the problem that his teachings contradicted first and second century teachings. He knew this. It is important to remember that Luther rejected James, Jude and Revelations. He rejected some of what is now considered scripture and all of the writings of the people trained by the apostles and who were ordained by them. Polycarp was one of the redactors of John's Gospel. So to drop Polycarp's writings leaves John's writings open to any discussion you want. The same is true for Ignatius or indirectly for Irenaeaus.

Luther ran down the logic train that the church must have gone wrong somewhere and in that logic train, he rejected papal authority. In doing so, he recognized that he had rejected the only authorizing party for the bible, so he wrote his own. His is often, correctly, accused of altering the bible. This sounds terrible now, but was not historically uncommon, even in Luther's day. It wouldn't necessarily have even been considered wrong at the time. Certainly Luther had no problem with it.

Out of this mess, which is now called the middle ages, came Luther's five solas, of which one is sola scriptura.

Sola scriptura is a weak principle. It is weak because it implies that God only grants salvation to those who could read. Others, of course would be eligible, but would be helpless to get to God without a reader. It also requires that you have a known true set of scriptures. We know, factually, that there are 400,000 variant New Testament passages. We know that the writings of the apostolic fathers, when they quote scripture, and they were the original readers, do not match what we use as scripture.

Fundamentalists as Protestant zealots live the five solas, not just the scripture. In doing so, they are inadvertently adopting a religious tradition. They reject "apostolic" tradition in favor of Protestant tradition.

Since the scripture alone is all that is needed, any other book is not really necessary unless it serves a practical purpose. You can therefore then ignore any compilation process, church history process and any other early beliefs clearly held in the first century but not clearly spoken of in scripture.

They just do not see the point of reading it, I think. There is a great book by Scott Hahn, who was an evangelical theologian and scripture scholar. He accidently picked up a powerful and tremendous work on scripture. It was saying all the things he was saying by reading the bible and the Jewish commentary on covenant theology. He got to the end, looked at the author to get more books and realized it was a Catholic priest.

They do not read Catholic stuff because they see no point. This lead him down a journey of discovery. He read another book by a Catholic priest and he had the terrifying insight that Catholics may be more scriptural than Protestants. His wife, also a theologian, was very distressed so they called another Protestant theologian to come help. The two of them consumed Catholic books, from the Fathers forward. The goal of calling the friend was to get himself back on the true way.

As they read, they both entered into a deep religious crisis. So they called a leading theologian from Harvard. The theologian's response on certain key Protestant beliefs was that they are not defendable from the bible, they are simply beliefs that are held by Protestants. They cannot be defended, just accepted.

Ultimately, the friend he invited to return him to the way, was received into the Catholic Church and chided him for taking so long in doing what he needed to do. Scott eventually became Catholic and in the end, so did his wife.

As long as people talk past each other, they do not really talk.
Reply:Raven! You're back! Happy to see you!

And I totally agree with you.
Reply:because knowing the true history of the Church would expose them to the light and they don't want it.

by the way, what an excellent question! God bless you!

edit: happy to see you!
Reply:There's a telling indication in the book liner for the book "Peter and the Keys." A number of Protestant historians note on the liner that the historical case for a Petrine ecclesiology is in fact quite strong. The scriptural support is incredibly strong, and the writings of early Christians are very nearly a lock.

That alone is why evangelical pastors do not encourage their flock to study about the history of the church and the bible (to the extent that they themselves are even aware of it): if people knew how strong the case for the Catholic view of history really was, some of their own fundamental tenets would come into question.
Reply:Because our Lord only directed us to study the scripture and if he wanted us to study the historical evidence behind it he would have directed us to do that also.

John 5: 39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Reply:Excellent question. And why don't they insist on following and requiring their followers to read the original Greek and Hebrew?

But lets take step back and ask what do they mean by fundamental? While I've studied the Greek and Hebrew texts and some of the Latin translations and even looked briefly at the abominable translation job done in the early 1600s my knowledge of the more contemporary religious creations becomes cloudy.

Do they mean 'fundamental' as in the 'origins' or as in 'the important basics'.

Very different things. Being a student of its history my first assumption was 'origin' however they might not mean that.

---

Quella Bella- But what do you mean by 'bible'? If you have read even a single page in the original language I commend you if not then aren't you a hypocrite?
Reply:I love it when the Christians fight amongst themselves. And the most interesting fact is that they use the same argument on each other that they do on the rest of us!

Blessed Be
Reply:Fundies aren't actually encouraged to read the ENTIRE Bible. They just pick out the parts they can feel warm and fuzzy about, and ignore the many violent, immoral, and sick parts.
Reply:Because I would suppose it means taking the good with the bad. Kind of takes away of bit of the euphoria.
Reply:Before the word "Fundamentalist" entered the public eye in a negative context, it simply meant getting back to the origins of christianity, coming from the word "fundamental" which in essence means "original teachings".

It is also connected to the main question as to why "Christian Fundamentalists", do not study their "later christian history" more than in the most superficial way.

"Fundamentalist" christians tend to stick to the history based on the contextual evidence of the books of the bible, thus they will ignore later "Church Fathers" especially those that came after the Nicene Council in 325 A.D.

Ante-Nicene Fathers, or the "Apostolic church fathers" who came before the Nicene Council are usually the basis of what protestant teachings are based on as opposed to those teachings that came after this council.

The writngs of Clement, Ignatius, Polycarp, Barnabas, Hermas, Epistle to Diognetus, Papias, Justin Martyr and Irenaeus who lived in the 1st century are only 2nd in importance to the Apostolic Writings by the disciples themselves.

Since it is from this time onward that "paganism" and "church tradition" started being equated with equivalent wheight to that of the scriptures themselves, most writings historical and otherwise (theological) were influenced by this continued encroachment (especially after the council of Nicaea), until eventually what the church many times said, had nothing to do, and many times directly contradicted scripture itself.

It is due to this situation that Luther and later, Calvin, would break with the Catholic church, but it does not mean to say that they stopped being catholics. They merely initiated the process, because the process of returning to the "fundamentals" of christianity is not complete, even today.

Reply:Once I got into studying the history of the Bible and the Church, I left fundamentalism. That may be the answer right there.
Reply:I'm sorry, but who exactly do you get this from? We can study whatever we like.

perhaps what you should ask yourself is why would any church NEED so desperately to justify their existence and the fact that they belive things which are not in the Bible....

Is is because if they don't justify it, people might actually start thinking for themselves and questioning it???
Reply:We DO study the Bible's origins, dear one. But give us a bit of a break here. There aren't many of us on the board who are Theologians or who have a degree in Biblical history, etc. We're just ordinary Christians who love the Lord and His Word.

I've studied the Bible for over 50 years and the more I learn, the more I realize that I still have MUCH to learn.

Unless you are wise beyond the majority of educated Christians, please stop trying to bash us. It only makes you appear ugly.

God bless!
Reply:the church has very corrupt beginnings, and it is still pretty corrupt. look at how catholics are molesting kids. that's been there since it started. and money, while it might not be used like this today, was used for their own purposes back then instead of for the poor. and also if they learn enough about the origins it might make them realized how it's all a bunch of bullshit. so the church doesn't emphasize much on when it started, just on how you'll go to hell if you're bad.
Reply:well... anyone who HAS analysed the Bible as a historical must know it is appalling- many of the authors are unknown and we don't knwop where any of the evidance comes from. Lots of it was probably written from stories told orginally by word of mouth and a game of chinese whispers will tell you how un-reliable that is!! Furthermore, the whole book was written to convince people God exists so it is subjective- all in all if you want to believe in it your better saying 'it was god' and washing over it.

I need some ideas of topics to talk about...any ideas?

I'm 16 and I have this online teen bible study thing?
Talk about stuff that is relevant to you, if you group is around the same age as you then I'm sure they'll be able to identify. Talk about stuff that may seem cliche, pre-marrital sex, peer pressure, reading the bible and praying on a regular basis, but somehow try to make it fun. Sometimes those things get overlooked because we all feel like they've been talked about so much that we actually don't talk about them. God bless you with your endeavour. PS- poll the people in your group and ask them what would they like to talk about that way it will actually be effective!
Reply:How about the topic of being "born again"? It's a great one to discuss with other people! So many people call themselves Christians, yet they have never even heard of the need to be born again in order to enter heaven!

God bless you for what you're doing!!

Pier pressure was always a good topic.

Discuss how you can over come pier pressure in today's society. Look up scriptures that will help you to explain how God will help them over come it and leave room for open discussions from the group. Let them tell of some experience that they have had to overcome and how they did it and also it will help the others see that they are not alone when it comes to pier pressure. Build on that and it will be an interesting Bible study.

Reply:One of my favorite teaching's of Christ is John chapter15...Jesus teaches about the vine and the branches. When I was your age I was surrounded by people who taught "once saved always saved." But I Never could wrap my head around their thinking. I did not agree with it. And God took me to John 15 and revealed so many truths in this passage. One crucial one is that we can lose our Salvation if we do not stay connected to the vine ( Jesus ). If we are faithful, our branches will bear much fruit. But those who shrink away from Christ will be cast into the fire.

If you are in a women's Bible study, what is the best study you have ever done?

Actually, I am in my third year of a four year Bible study - based on the Denver Catholic Bible School study - and I would have to say that the prophets have been most interesting and enlightening.

If you are in a women's Bible study, what is the best study you have ever done?
The best study i been in is Faith. We are to keep looking up. Keep our faith, and Trust in Jesus. All things are possible with God on our side. We may not understand all the trials we go through, but God test us, to test our Faith. When things go wrong, we should never give up. Just keep our Faith in the Lord. Never question Him, just Trust in Him.

We are doing a womens conference next year at my church. We want to focus on being Princesses in God's eyes. Our target audience is teens.

Womans bible study about being a princess of God. Need some ideas. Anyone have any?
I don't know about princesses, but my first thought was the story of Esther. As a youth pastor, I have done a series on her and can say that there are loads of principles and truths that can be applied young women's lives.

Hope this helps a little!

You can start out with what it means to be daughter of God. the importance of adoption (ie, once you adopt, you cannot EVER disown your child, and that is what it is like with God.)

What God expects out of His child, and how much He loves us.

You can end with an annointing for all those who have accepted their adoption into the family of God using Rose of Sharon oil on their forehead (you can get into the annointing of David to do God's work) as a symbol of that acceptance and willingness to follow God's calling in their lives.

Why do people study a school subject for hours on end but refuse to study the bible which leads to eternity.?

All school subjects lead to a TEMPORARY life of less that 120 years. The study of the bible leads to an eternal life. I'm interested on the thoughts of everyone, not just the children of Jesus. What I'm saying is that it's not that hard to study a bible.

Why do people study a school subject for hours on end but refuse to study the bible which leads to eternity.?
Unless somebody who loves the Bible presents it for study in terms of language, history, law, culture, art, poetry, etc; it may not prove all that interesting.

People caught up in the spirit of their own interests, who stand against Christ, or do not have any revelation from Christ, may not find it pleasant to read.

They may miss the fact that it imparts eternal life to us daily ---not just x number of years from now. In fact without the spirit of Christ; to read and study His word may at best only put one to sleep in their chair.

God is blessing you if you find it "not that hard" to study the Bible. It can get even better as the years go by. It can convey true peace, real joy and even be food for your body.
Reply:Just an eternity of contradictions, circular arguments and unanswered questions.

It has also undergone a lot of editing from popes and leaders all throughout history who were attempting forward their own greedy agendas.

As a book of fables, the bible comes close to Aesop's great works, but let's not get carried away.
Reply:Plus not everyone believes in God, not everyone believes in christianity, not everyone believes in the bible, koran, etc. Studying it in schools is pushing your religion on others which is unconstitutional. The US gives us the right to religion, and to worship as we please, so if you want to learn about the bible, go to church.
Reply:Because when you study a subject, you try to approach it with an open mind, not a preconceived belief, and then research, gather data, evaluate sources, and use critical thinking skills to decide for yourself what you believe.

Many people, in fact, do not take this approach to "studying" the Bible at all. In fact, they are "anti-study" and simply read the Bible, take it literally and assume it applies to them and whatever situation they are currently in. In addition, they have preconceived beliefs and then look in the Bible for whatever supports those beliefs, and discard whatever is uncomfortable for them.

It would certainly help if more Christians actually encouraged people to "study" the Bible and think for themselves, before making a decision. Unfortunately, many churches, and hence, many Christians, are unable to combine faith AND reason (or critical thinking) to help people make informed decisions. Instead, they seem more interested in promoting an agenda (e.g. "Believe it Jesus! Or you're going to Hell!").

And by the way, it is very difficult to study the Bible. The Bible is a very complicated book, written in several different languages over thousands of years spanning across very different cultures. There are very difficult passages in the Bible that we, as 21st century Americans, have to work to understand. And that's that I mean by reading ALL of the BIble, not just the "easy" parts, like John 3:16.
Reply:How do you know that by studying the bible, it leads to eternity? What evidence do you have for making such a claim.

P.S - Do not submit biblical text as evidence.

Have a nice day ;-)
Reply:That type of thinking is EXACTLY what makes the third world the third world.
Reply:Interesting. I wonder what the world would be like if Edison studied the bible instead of electricity?

What if Ford learned all about the book of Leviticus instead of focusing on Production and automobiles.

What if Pasteur studied Revelations instead of germs?

Your wish would take us back to the stone age.
Reply:Because some people do not believe in the bible.
Reply:It's pointless. Could you give me one single reason for believing the Bible is the word of God? I suspect you "feel it in your heart" or other such rubbish.
Reply:B/C they want to get a good grade.

Not everyone is a Christian. We are.

The Bible can be very boring in places.
Reply:Most of the people that don't believe in the bible, or religion or what have you....have studied the bible.
Reply:You don't study the bible, that is clear from your question, you believe before you even open the book. Study implies learning something and challenging it.

But I guess by your definition, you are correct "Bible study" is not that difficult. Learning something new is.
Reply:performing well in school subjects will lead to successful careers, which in turn leads to successful lives. reading the bible is like a hobby, no different from reading a newspaper. It's just a book.
Reply:That's an interesting question.
Reply:Because they put their faith in things, possessions, popularity, self image, all the things that are either delusions or made of dust.

I think some people answered to the effect that we'd have no light bulb if Edison had studied the Bible, implying that one is unable to study both. That's the lamest form of defense and is akin to the question about why Christians take aspirin. Sophomoric at best.

Most of these answers come from people who are proud and arrogant and believe that they are in charge. That is an illusion, but a powerful one, as powerful as a drug.

God bless.

Reply:because the bible is outdated and full of flaws.

and who is to say the bible is correct? you? other PEOPLE?

people are flawed... and therefore so is the bible
Reply:If you really study the bible really hard and with an open mind, you may find, like I did, that it is full of contradictions, impossible stories, and multiple agendas inserted by the copyist and editors thousands of years ago, and that it really doesn't have any real value in the modern world.
Reply:Because it's universally known that better grades means better and more interesting job opportunities and equals better able to function in this world. It's more applicable to one's life and enables humanbeings to make life better for others.

I would trust a surgeon that practices his or her profession and studies constently over one who didn't make it his or her priority. It's so you can better serve your fellow man and fulfill human needs better.
Reply:I think the mistake here is in the assumption that the Bible actually leads to eternity. The truth is that it's such a badly written collection of nonsense that the act of reading it feels as if it takes an eternity.
Reply:so true Good point....and this life can be alot shorter which is fine cuz aches are a pain....my Mom was 46 when she died of cancer..
Reply:You would think 15 minutes a day would kill them. Just look at other answers, you will see that they are more concerned with sinning, and congratulating each other about how they were born that way.
Reply:people are full of themself and their little diversions and pleasures here to be worried about the hereafter.

only upon our death and judgement will we know how we stand with the Almighty, so keep studying the Bible!
Reply:Our soul is eternal, bible or no bible.
Reply:Its quite challenging. As a kid I didn't like the old Testament much because of its severe tone. Of course when you realise there is a God, you take it seriously. Otherwise passages can be quite boring, "so what" was my attitude.

Stuff in the epistles is frankly impossible to understand without some knowledge of spiritual things.
Reply:Good point. I doubt anyone on Yahoo has actually read a book without pictures much less the Bible. If you want to learn about your own faith I suggest you write it down. It's amazng what you discover about yourself when you write.
Reply:No one ever got a job on the credentials of "Has read entire Bible, but no other books."

The Bible is an outdated tome chock-full of myths, contradictions, absurdities, inconsistencies, cruelties, bigotry, intolerance, and murder.

I wouldn't let my children read it.
Reply:Some people find that there is wisdom and knowledge in book that were written more recently than 3500 years ago.

The bible teaches us morals which may have made sense 3500 years ago- but don't in todays day. It tells us stories which are ridiculous (Noah), it offers us rules which are brutal and archane (Leviticus... let's stone people to death for minor infractions), many contradictions and errors- and it is particularly poorly written.

I believe in life BEFORE death. I would think that your chosen diety should too.
Reply:School subjects are being forced upon us continually because of our socities' belief in our school system. Religion is hardly ever addresses in public schools anymore. The study of the bible now has to be enforced by the parents or the individual themselves.
Reply:Because the Bible doesn't lead to eternity. No matter how well you know the Bible, you're going to be dead and gone within 100 years.

Besides, knowing the Bible does not imply believing what it says: on the average atheists know the Bible at least as well as do believers.
Reply:1) If you don't buy into that "eternal life" nonsense, then studying the bible to get it is a waste of that valuable, short life you mention. Of course, people should study the bible in order better to understand the majority of Western art and literature, but it's not essential (only advisable).

2) Why exactly is eternal life so desirable? Have you really thought about this?
Reply:Knowledge will increase greatly before the coming of Christ.

Here is a question we were given in Bible Study.?

But then your not going to learn by me giving you the answers.

Why is there so much suffering?

What happens when we die?

What is God's Kingdom?

What is God's name?

Why did Jesus sacrifice his life for us?

What is God's plan for the earth?

How many will be going to heaven?

These are the type of questions that will help one mature as a Christian.

You would do well to contact Jehovah's Witnesses who would be more than happy to conduct a free home bible study with you. They have a thorough and deep understanding of the Bible
Reply:you could probably find the answer on christian/catholic websites. i noticed someone said that there was better meaty substanced questions you pastor could ask you to do however, i would assume the task was to get the kids thinking, improve their research skills especially in a christian capacity and to also read their bible more, such a task might even have them working better as a team.
Reply:What question ? You made a statement and asked for an answer. Can't be done.

There are 10 instances in the Bible where God or Jesus addresses a man by using his name twice (ex: Acts 9:4, Saul, Saul). Three instances are in the New Testament. Can anyone help with this question?

Here is a question we were given in Bible Study.?
Jesus said Simon, Simon to Peter.

Luk 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

%26amp;

Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

%26amp;

Genesis 22:11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

%26amp;

Exodus 3:4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

%26amp;

Genesis 46:2 And God spake unto Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.

%26amp;

1 Samuel 3:10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

I don't know where the other two are off the top of my head.

Reply:I'll answer a portion of your question that perhaps your teacher doesn't know.

It is said that when God calls you repeating your name, calling you twice HE is calling both the physical person and the Spiritual person.

This is a time to pay close attention.

One of the others that He called by name twice was Moses.

But then your not going to learn by me giving you the answers.

God Bless.
Reply:I have no idea, but why is your Bible study group concerned with this? Aren't there more substantial, meaty topics you could be talking about instead of silly trivial things?
Reply:Not to be a Nay Sayer but you were given this question to spark you to search out the Bible for yourself. Wouldn't this be cheating?
Reply:How would learning the answer to such a question, help you in spiritual development?

Tell me,do they ask you -

I recently joined a bible study, and they all use the corrupt NIV. How do I convince them to use the KJV?

I want to tell the group that the NIV is based off of corrupt, Catholic manuscripts (Latin Vulgate and something else), but how do I go about doing it so I don't look awkward in trying to convert a whole bunch of people to switch bible versions? Also, I want to show them entire missing bible versions and stuff. How do I convince them that the King James bible is the perfect preserved Word of God in English? And if you disagree with me please don't answer the question! Thank you!

I recently joined a bible study, and they all use the corrupt NIV. How do I convince them to use the KJV?
It's hard to convince the stiff necked, those under strong delusion and those in a slumber/stooper....but maybe if you suggest the site called, Bible Verses Removed, they could see in writing and comparrison what's so wrong with the "newer " translations. One scripture I use to get that point across is when Jesus says you must "hate" your mother, brother, sister.... and I tell them that the word hate in the Greek means to love less and that Jesus would never say to hate your mother...
Reply:We have a paper on the KJV Bible that we got off the internet. It really shows how the other Bibles out there are really messed up! Here is the website-www.nogreaterjoy.org You could print off some copies and pass them around.
Reply:It's funny to see you Protestants fighting over your many translations of the Bible.
Reply:The only uncorrupt you can find is the originals. KJV is one of the most corrupt.
Reply:And people wonder why those of us who aren't laugh at some of goings-on in the Christian churches.
Reply:That is silly. NIV is not corrupt.

You better concentrate to your own performance
Reply:Change Study groups to one that uses the KJV? Good luck convincing them, they won't like to hear it and won't believe you.

Should women be allowed to express their viewpoints during a coed bible study?

1 Timothy 2:11 Let a woman learn in silence, in all subjection.

1 Timothy 2:12 And I do not allow a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in silence.

Should women be allowed to express their viewpoints during a coed bible study?
The point of writing the Biblical books was to pass on knowledge. Knowledge has to be understood. To be understood, questions must be asked and answered.

Read the whole Bible. Ask questions along the way to understand why the message being conveyed by each author was important at the time and how might it apply today. Think about any subtle differences that may have accumulated from translations over time. Compare the characters within the Bible to your own sense of mankind. Then draw your own conclusion about whether or not women should express their views.

My opinion is yes, women should express their opinions. Others may conclude differently. For me, it is enlightening to hear other people's interpretations which may force me to reexamine my own. If some find it intolerable, they should find a like-minded group within which to study.

Interestingly, it's for these reasons that most theology curriculums include logic and debate as well.
Reply:Hope you are enjoying the Bible study class. Report Abuse

Reply:Oh my... another case of missing the point of the message becasuse of tripping over literal interpretations. Ask God to illuminate the Word as you read, then use both your head and your heart to gain insights. May the Holy Spirit lead you.

Peace and grace.
Reply:LMAO!!

Don't trust anyone named Timothy! My brother's a Timothy and a shady character at that!!
Reply:Yes, women can speak their minds in a coed Bible study. Paul's teaching on women being silent in the church were in regard to a woman not exercising authority over a man in a role such as Pastor.
Reply:Well, when you get a bunch of egotistical, bigoted, domineering men who are threatened by lack of controlling their women to write the words of the Greatest Story Ever Told, what do you expect them to write?
Reply:Well if you want to go by the Bible yes. If you want to be civil no. But remember the Bible is a book of the Middle east and we all know how that area of the world is.
Reply:Yes.
Reply:Nope. The Bible is clear about the limited right women have. (And that's NEVER been wrong, eh?)
Reply:They should be able to, otherwise is isn't exactly coed anymore.
Reply:You have to understand the times in which the Bible was written in order to understand scriptures relating to women. At that time, there were more laws governing the behavior of women, and even as Christians today are admonished to obey the laws of the land, Timothy and other church leaders had no choice but to admonish their followers to obey the laws that were in place at that time. It was probably illegal for women to speak in certain public places, just like slavery was condoned at that time also, but that still doesn't make it right. But thank God for freedom because now there are no laws that restrict a woman's participation in worship services, or any other public event, and to restrict her from her sharing her gifts and talents would ultimately deprive the church. So, to make a long story short, YES, women are human beings, and should be treated as such, and allowed to express their viewpoints in all aspects of life. Thank you very much.
Reply:Biblical translations can be taken literal. However it is important to use your God given brain to decide when it is literal and when it is figurative. Not all translations are accurate in our modern day language. Much is left to interpretation. Who else can speak your own mind?
Reply:If women were supposed to keep silent during the bible study, why would you make it co-ed in the first place? You either value someone for their opinion or deny them a chance to speak at an open meeting.

Though I do not know why you ask as you already seem to have the answer you are looking for.
Reply:Timothy was a dope.
Reply:YOu should be able to speak your mind. IN my opinion gender means nothing in the eyes of Yaweh. Even Yeshua...or as you all call him "Jesus" sent women out to preach his word. Look at the story of Pricilla in the new testament. Arguably one of the first female disciples.
Reply:Ah yes, the lovely teachings of the Bible

when are people going to realize this is HATE - no other way to say it
Reply:Study further and get an understanding of the issue those passages were dealing with.

And try hard not to ignore the other passages that commend the godly women and even the deaconesses.

Romans 16

1I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant[a] of the church in Cenchrea.

Romans 16:12

Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those women who work hard in the Lord. Greet my dear friend Persis, another woman who has worked very hard in the Lord.

So not only is this same person acknowledging the contributions of women, but if you read the whole passage in context instead of carving out little bits to make your accusation (And the name Satan is "The Accuser") then do understand this...

The issue was disorderly conduct of a church service, and especially by means of speaking in tongues and other prophecies in a distracting and disorderly way. So this was among the rules imposed to try to keep a church service orderly, but it is NOT meant to suppress a woman from serving as a member of the church.

1. Sin is transgression against God's Law. When ever we rebel aginist God (not doing his will) we are sinning. God tells us in 1John 3:4 sin is rebeling against His law:

"Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness."

2. Yes, all people are sinners and God tells us in His word, the Bible, that we are all sinners. In Romans 3:9-11:

"What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10 As it is written:

“ There is none righteous, no, not one;

11 There is none who understands;

There is none who seeks after God."

But God goes on to tell us in 1 Peter 4:18 that there is one who is righteous and that one is Jesus Christ:

"Now If the righteous one is scarcely saved,

Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

3. We are born into sin, we read in Romans 5:12:

"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"

Can we be sent to Hell because we inherited (being the offspring of Adam) the "sin" Adam did in the garden of Eden? That is not what the Bible teaches. Anyone who is sent to Hell will be sent there because of their own sin, not Adam's. In Romans 2:5-6 God states:

"But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of judgment of God; who will render to every man according to his deeds."

4. The penalty for sin is eternal damnation. And without a sin bearer you will spend eternaty in Hell. That one sin bearer is Jesus Christ. God tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:10 we will stand before him for Judgment:

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in HIS BODY, according to that HE HATH DONE, whether it be good or bad."

5. Penalties on earth? If you get caught stealing or murdering someone you will be put in jail these are the laws of man, Drug and alcohol abuse also have their penalties, but God tells us who we should fear in Luke 12:4-5:

“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!"

We cannot blame Satan for making us sin. Any sin we commit is our own sin and that will have to be accounted to God. We are all misrable rotten sinners, including you and including me, and we all need the Lamb of God to pay for our sins. God tells us who the Lamb is in John 1:29:

"The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
Reply:1. sin -- moral offense or shortcoming.

2. yes-all are sinners

3. sin is instilled in us as early as in the womb

4. eternal darkness

2. Yes (Romans 3:23)

3. All people are born with a sin nature.

4. Death (Romans 6:23)

5. Yes, I think anytime you sin you are outside of the protection of God, until you confess and get right with Him.
Reply:1. Anything that goes against God's teaching

2. All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, yes all people are sinners.

3. We are born pure, but become sinners, because that is just the way we are...refer to #2.

4. The wages of sin is death, but through him you can have eteranal life.

5. I think there are, but only if you are a Christian. I believe the non-christians don't get punished because they are not God's children. We are his children, and like a parent, he punishes us when we do wrong.

disobeying god's law

2.Are all people sinners?

yes, all people are born with the sin of their ancestors. (adam and eve)

(Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 5:12

[ Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ ] Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—)

3.Do people become sinners or do they sin because they are sinners?

people sin because they are born sinners.

4.(Assuming that you believe in God) What is God's penalty for sin, if any?

god gives salvation through forgiveness, but if you do not repent your sins and ask for forgiviness the penatly is eternal life in hell.

(Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.)

5.Are there penalties that occur on earth for sins in a person's daily life?

penalties can be as little as a slap on the hand, or guilt, to jail, death sentance, harm of loved ones.

guilt is believed to be put here by god as another penalty for our actions.
Reply:Hi all, I don't want to hijack this thread but I saw some intersting comments that I wanted to reply to. the first is about dinosaurs and how old is the earth. first we need to remember that written history only goes back to about 5,200 years ago. There is no proof of anything older than that.

Some people try to rely on carbon 14 dating, the problem is, if you are using carbon 14 dating, you have to assume that the carbon reservoir remained constant all the way back through history. This cannot be proven. Their conclusion will be a guess at best.

Carbon 14 dating is very accurate up to about 13,000 years. After that it varies, and it varies wildly.

I was at a musem a while back and there was a display of dinosaur bones. The sign said the bones were between 60,000 and 100,000 years old. That's a margin of 40,000 years for mistake. That is not science my friend, that's guess work.

Good luck with that study group they can be very instresting!

Willful disobedience to God’s commandments.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper, Prov. 28: 13. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, Isa. 1: 18. Sinners shall die, and the righteous shall be saved, Ezek. 18. The Lamb of God taketh away the sins of the world, John 1: 29. Be baptized, and wash away thy sins, Acts 22: 16. The wages of sin is death, Rom. 6: 23. To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin, James 4: 17. Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin, 2 Ne. 4: 31. Wo unto all those who die in their sins, 2 Ne. 9: 38. They could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence, Alma 13: 12. Do not suppose ye will be restored from sin to happiness, Alma 41: 9-10. The Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance, Alma 45: 16 (D%26amp;C 1: 31). Little children are not capable of committing sin, Moro. 8: 8. To repent, men must confess and forsake their sins, D%26amp;C 58: 42-43. The greater sin remains in him who forgives not, D%26amp;C 64: 9. He who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation, D%26amp;C 82: 3. Unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, D%26amp;C 82: 7. When we undertake to cover our sins, the heavens withdraw themselves, D%26amp;C 121: 37.

2.Are all people sinners?

All people have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. All people are in need of repentance but there are some more than others.

3.Do people become sinners or do they sin because they are sinners?

I don't think people are born sinnful, to become sinnful one must willfully act against the commandments of God.

4.(Assuming that you believe in God) What is God's penalty for sin, if any?

I think the entire chapter of Ezekiel 18 gives and indepth answer. The short answer is that sin causes the Holy Ghost to depart from our lives. If we are unrepentant of our sins, ultimately we will be found unworthy to return to our Heavenly Father's presence because no unclean thing can endure the presence of God.

5.Are there penalties that occur on earth for sins in a person's daily life?

I don't believe it is exactly "quid pro quo", this for that. There are consequences for everything that we do. When we sin and remove ourselves from his presence, spirit and direction, we're on our own and are without his protection or guidence. For example, I think there are cases in the scriptures where God and cursed a father's child to death because of the father's sin. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm thinking of David and the child he had with Bath-sheba. Other than that I don't believe a child dies as a part of God's punishment to the mother or father. If a child dies because of the parents sin, that is more likely the consequence, not punishment of sin. All men have their free agency but are not free from the consequences in using that agency.

My Source is from the "New Translation of the Holy Scriptures",it is a Bible I use daily and it is put in a form that makes studing the Word of God easier to read and understand.I am imperfect and as we all are,but I truely believe god judges us each as individuals and not as a whole. We are forgiven of our sins ,that is why there is death, that is the ultmate wages of sin,but God Loves You and he is a Forgiving God! I hope this was some comfort and help to you.

4. The only eternal penalty for sin is for those who are entering Heaven. sin keeps one from doing good. so those will receive fewer rewards(jewels in their crowns) in Heaven. It is not sin that keeps one out of heaven, nor is it sin that sends one to hell. being consigned to hell is the result of rejection of God.

5. the sins one commits usualy have some negative concequence... sooner or latter.

1) How come the bible preached that the earth was the center of the universe, and then "changed" its opinion once the scientific evidence became overwhelming that it was wrong?

2)How come the bible does not mention dinosaurs? I mean we find so many big bones belonging to those animals how come no mention? Also when anyone does carbon dating on the bones they are millions of years old... weird huh?

3. Once again, we are born sinners, and I don't understand why we continue to sin sometimes even after being saved or when we don't want to. But thats what makes God's love and forgiveness all the more wonderful.

4. God's penalty for sin is death, yet, because he loves us so much, he sent his son to take the punishment for us. All you have to do is believe, and yes, obey his commands.

5. I think usually yes, our sins do affect us here on earth, sometimes months or years down the road. Sometimes you will suffer for a past sin even after you have been saved; don't be mad when it happens because you know you deserve it.

To the asker- feel free to use my answers if ya want, but please at least change the wording, and also let me say stay in the church and don't give up.

To anyone who may be rolling their eyes at my answers- hey don't take it from me just open a Bible. If you do not believe in the Bible but you do believe in God, just ask him then.

To atheists- I have nothing to say to you monkeys.

To Rocket Science- your website is rediculously opinionated and not a really good source, as for carbon dating...sheesh and you say the Bible is inconsistant? Yes carbon dating says that bones are millions of years old, but do you know how it works? It would take much too much typing to explain, but I suggest you research it because it is a VERY inaccurate source, which is only some-what accepted because it "supports" the THEORY of evolution. All other evidence points to the world being 7-10 thousand years old, just ask any scientist secular or non. You want proof of creation? Go outside and look around and find just ONE thing that got there by accident...and I'm not talking about litter.

2. Mary and Jesus are the only people who never sinned.

3. People sin because it is human nature.

4. God's penalty for unrepented serious sin is hell. Penalty for repented serious sin or less serious sin is Purgatory, which will eventually lead to Heaven.

Sin is anything and everything that goes against God. That could be thoughts, desires, actions...and so on. There are many ways scripture speaks of sin, Two of the more important are "missing the target" and " falling short of God"

#2

Yes, ALL people are sinners.

#3

Both -We are born into sin, and we sin because we are sinners.

We are selfish beings that follow our flesh instead of the spirit.

The Bible says that God will discipline us for our actions. I wouldn't call it penalty, but rather discipline if you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.

This may include illness, hardship, earthly battles, and other situations in our lives that keep us in battle. Just as parents discipline their children, God will do that same to us. This is done to bring us to where we need to be.

Penalty for the non believer is spiritualy death- separation from God. Full penalty for sin, includes both spiritual and physical death ( Romans 6:23; 7:13)

However, this doesn't mean that every illness or battle is a discipline from God. Satan plays a HUGE role in casting out pain and suffering on us. Either way, we need to place our hope and faith in the Lord and He alone will get us get through whatever it is.

Suffering/discipline can be a result of Satanic affliction- example(JOB 1-2)

or as a result of Gods discipline - example (Hebrews 12:5-11)

#5

Again, Yes, God may discipline us on earth for sins in our lives.

By reading the Bible you will see many times throughout the Bible people were disciplined and even killed because of their sins.

Do you have family Bible Study in your home? When and how long?

My husband and I pick out Bible verses to discuss with our children most days. We try for everyday but don't always succeed. We just talk about it, sometimes for 15 minutes, sometimes for an hour. It depends on how many questions the kids have or how they are able to apply it to circumstances in their own lives. If you ask kids how their day was, they usually answer, ok. If you ask what they did, they will say "nothing". This is a great way to get them to open up. It brings us closer to each other and to God.

May God Bless you.

NEVER!!! Report Abuse

Reply:My wife and I read a chapter every other day or so.....

at least we try to be consistent.
Reply:When I was little we used to have Bible Study.

It involved my 2 other siblings and my dad, who used to read out of the Childrens Bible and then we would discuss what happened and answer questions.

I was alot of fun for me :)

Reply:No. We don't own a Bible in our home.

follow his guidelines
Reply:Only every day of my life. 24/7.
Reply:Daily for about 10-15 minutes before dinner...Kids are still young so we keep it short.
Reply:Ahh, family devotions! Yes I head those up, since I have only toddlers in my home, We read a few pages out of a "real" picture bible (not a bible storybook). Then we pray, and maybe sing some songs.
Reply:No, but I really need to start doing that. We used to have one at my mothers house once a week for an hour.

Christians will u make sum time 4 bible study an compare the life of MOSES to JESUS in every aspect possible?

Deuteronomy 18:18 “I (God) will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee (Moses), and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.”

Many Christians believe this prophecy foretold by Moses to be in regards to Jesus. Indeed Jesus was foretold in the Old Testament, but as will be clear, THIS PROPHECY DOES NOT FIT HIM, but rather is more deserving of Muhammad, may God praise him.

The verse in discussion is explicit in saying that the prophet will come amongst the Brethren of the Jews. Abraham had two sons: Ishmael and Isaac. The Jews are the descendants of Isaac’s son, Jacob. The Arabs are the children of Ishmael. Thus, the Arabs are the brethren of the Jewish nation.[3] The Bible affirms:

‘And he (Ishmael) shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.’ (Genesis 16:12) ‘And he (Ishmael) died in the presence of all his brethren.’ (Genesis 25:18)The children of Isaac are the brethren of the IIshmaelites.

Christians will u make sum time 4 bible study an compare the life of MOSES to JESUS in every aspect possible?
Do your own religion homework And by the way, brethern of the jews means that the person WAS A JEW, NOT SOME LUNATIC WITH DELUSIONS OFGRANDEUR! Mohammed was not a true prophet, but a charletan who bullied people into doing what he wanted, and had the people wo didn't obey him killed.
Reply:Alhamdoulilah! Have you read John 1:19-28 (The Testimony of John the Baptist)? It mentions the people: the Messiah, Elijah, and "the prophet." Very interesting. There is also a verse in the Psalms that mentions the "burden upon Arabia."

Check out Mark 12:29-31. Jesus himself proclaims that God is one (not three), and that you should love God and love your neighbor (this is the universal message of Islam- not to practice this or that, but to simply "submit to God"). This is also mentioned in Matthew 22:37-39, although it seems that someone has eliminated Jesus saying that God is one in this passage.

Also read Psalm 84:4-6- mentions the kaaba in Baca (another name for Makkah).
Reply:You cannot take things out of context. Allah is not the same Yahweh or Jehovah. The Arabs speak of another god. Therefore in Deuteronomy 18:20 is quite serious, death in fact to those prophets. It is also says that Ishmael is the son of the slave woman and Isaac is the son of the promised woman born to the promise of the descendants to Jesus. That is why we have problems with the Jews and the Arabs this day. Go figure. Does not the Koran mention Jesus and if He is a prophet then He must exist. Therefore, if Jesus is a prophet then you have to listen to what He says in light of the Bible. If Jesus existed then what He says is true. The truth found in the Bible. Cross reference the Koran which also points to Christ.

In the Bible it states:

Deuteronomy 18:15-22

15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die." 17 The Lord said to me: "What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. 19 If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death." 21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
Reply:I will if you promise to study the gospels Mathew, Mark, Luke and especially John. Jesus was a good prophet, I'm sure you will agree, but Jesus revealed a loving God who wants to have a relationship with us, a God who wants to draw all man to Him, Jesus also declares Himself to be the I AM, that is why the children of Isaac picked up stones to kill Him, so Jesus was either what He declared Himself to be; the Messiah, or He was lying.
Reply:I see one fatal flaw.....

the prophecies in any book can be made to fit anyone, ever.
Reply:Maybe it was for Muhammad because Jesus was the Son of God and one with the Father.
Reply:Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Too bad that the Bible which is the only TRUTH says that adding the teachings of the Quran will benefit you by allowing you to experience many plagues in your life (eternal life). Stuff Muhammad. Isaac was the Father of the Jews. Ishmael was the Father of the Muslims. Muhammad was an ordinary man who was demonised. He even had a demon appear to him. That is where the Book of Quran comes from. I am a Christian. I certainly do not want to rial you up. But I want you to know the Truth. Be BLESSED. Give your life to Jesus Christ and experience true freedom in your life. Religion only brings bondage. Christianity brings freedom. I pray peace and freedom will enter your heart and your life.

I want to knw how to do bible study,?
start at the beginning and when you get to the end stop
Reply:i am a christian and has been for years, and i don't think i've read the bible from cover to cover like you would a book. I would advice that you get bible studies from your church, because if you try to read and understand for yourself, you will all be confused and have more questions than answers.

Have someone who is more advanced/ and knowledged in this area to clearify things for you.

I am not saying that you cannot read your bible for yourself, but to really study the word, you will need some assistance.
Reply:Bible study is much better in a group setting, especially if you haven't already read the whole thing at least once. Do you have any churches near you? Maybe you could call them up and ask about Bible study groups. If you don't have any churches nearby, there are online study groups too. Just be careful, there are lots of false teachers online.

God bless you!
Reply:lol at the Lewis Carroll quote.

I think that methods of studying the bible vary by religion. Since you're using the phrase "bible study" I'm guessing you're Christian, so see a leader in your denomination for assistance.

how to study the Bible: spend time listening to God in His Word; spend time talking to God in prayer.

Reply:ask the lord to guide u 1st!book of john is agood start!
Reply:I would suggest the book of John or Luke then start at the beginning of the New Testament with Matthew and if you want to read from the Old testament Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Jeremiah and Isaiah. Starting at the beginning and reading to the end is a rather daunting task but can be done. I have read it from front to back several times and I find I get more out of studying one book at a time. If you can find a study at your local church or form one with some other Christians it works better.

Back to the Bible did a series of radio shows on studying the Bible. It was pretty good I thought.

Bible study? What day of the week is the Sabbath of God?

Genesis 2:1-3

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested [a] from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

Bible study? What day of the week is the Sabbath of God?
Saturday the 7th and last day of the week.
Reply:Jews say Saturday and in NYC on Saturday they close the stores in the Jewish section of manhattan called Delancey Street.
Reply:It really depends on who you ask, some will say Saturday and some will say Sunday, and there are those that believe it's in the middle of the week, so flip a coin and take your pick.
Reply:A better question would be who changed the Sabbath and why?

O
Reply:The old covenant sabbath was Saturday.

The new covenant sabbath is Sunday.

We live in new covenant times.

The old covenant is no longer in effect today, for anyone.
Reply:Some people argue the calendar has changed so we can't be certain.

But, although the Hebrew calendar has had some changes, their scholars ALWAYS very carefully counted to maintain the correctness of the 7th day. So that argument is moot.

We need only look at the Hebrew calendar to determine the answer to the question. The 7th day is the same as Saturday on the Roman calendar used by most of the Europeans and Americas.

Oddly, the sabbath commandment is the only one with the word, "REMEMBER", and it is the only one that has been challenged or changed by MAN.
Reply:The seventh day.

The Bible does not speak of Monday thru Sunday as being the days of the week.
Reply:Oh, Oh...I know...

Technically from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday.

But to chruch going folks it is Sunday
Reply:The Sabbath of God is the seventh day. His day of rest. It represents in shadow the coming of the lord. It is also referred to as the day of the lord and the Millennial kingdom of God. We have by faith entered the his Sabbath, those who have accepted the atonement. We do not worship God in traditions of man but in spirt and truth. Those who have by faith received Jesus are taught to go beyond the law and all days are the Sabbath days. All days are Holy.
Reply:various Jewish sects...have the sabbath as Tuesday at dusk...however...some massonic Hebrews have it as Wednesday at dusk..it was Cesar Augusta who "designanted" Saturday as the sabbath due to marketing day for Romans. He only agreed to a sabbath day when he realized the significance of the sabbath to Jewish leaders and to appease them in a small way
Reply:God commanded His people, Israel, to observe the sabbath and keep it holy. The Jewish sabbath has always been from sundown Friday until sundown Saturday.

Christians worship on resurrection day. The women went to the tomb to find Jesus on the day *following* the sabbath.

.
Reply:Saturday. Sunday is the first day of the week not the 7th
Reply:Saturday is the seventh day of the week and is therefore the Sabbath that God made for man at creation. It is also the 4th Commandment.

The day of worship has never been changed by God..the catholic church changed it to sunday thus fulfilling revelation when it says the Beast is the name of a man who thinks to change times and laws. They also changed the Ten commandments..taking out the one about idols and splitting another in 2.

This info is readily available in catholic books..freely admitted by them. They claim to have the God given authority.
Reply:saturday is the sabbath and sunday is the lords day
Reply:Sunday the first day of the week.
Reply:Catherine is right, Saturday is the Sabbath. Sunday is the Lord's Day. Seventh Day Adventists still keep the Sabbath while most other denominations go to church on Sunday.

What is the official French translation of the bible used in Quebec for Catholic mass?

Just as English speaking Canada uses the New Revised Standard Version on the Bible and the US uses The New American Version, I was wondering what they use in Quebec. I am going to assume it some version of La Bible de Jerusalem. Any particular edition though? I am studying French so I would like to have a catholic bible to study from. Thanks!

What is the official French translation of the bible used in Quebec for Catholic mass?
The French spell it exactly the same however, they pronounce it Bib le.

id seek answers within my church and If I found none I would look into others.

but Im pretty secure, as I am a catholic
Reply:Jehovah's Witnesses have a free Bible study program. It can be in your home for an hour a week or anywhere else you'd like, even on the telephone. It can be on any subject you choose. The main textbook will be the Bible. I learned more about the Bible in three weeks than a lifetime of going to church.

Reply:A church that not teach the Bible is not even a church, it is a cult. Find a church that does teach the Bible.
Reply:If you're want to go into deeper Bible Study, I strongly suggest you first take some time to study theology before actually studying any particular books in the Bible. This has helped me tremendously and I don't regret it as it has given me insight to interpret what I read in the Bible in a different way now than I did before. It is important to know how the Bible was put together, who wrote it, when it was written, whom it was aimed at and how the various translations were done over hundreds of years. Once you have an understanding of Theology, you can truly benefit and gain knowledge from reading the Bible. It is a maginificent book to read, but too many people make the mistake of taking every word in the literal sense, leaving themselves open to doubt when they come across contradictions, of which there are many. However, any student of theology will be able to tell you why these contradictions exist. Our Christian religion is based on the Bible and the Bible contains the truth. People tend to put to much importance in minor details rather than seeing the broader picture which the Bible presents to us, which is why Theology will benefit any person who really wants to study the Bible in-depth.
Reply:If you're certain your church is un-Biblical, get out! If the teaching is not from the word of God, then it's from you-know-who. Find a new church.

God bless you!
Reply:there is no deeper bible study than that of a true catholic study since the bible is OUR book, I have no problem with deeper bible studies, in fact it is so deep, protestants have no idea of what real union of God entails.
Reply:Finding the Truth That Makes Men Free

MEN and women who love what is right do not like being slaves to selfish, wicked men. They want to be free to do all the good that they can. The Creator of man in righteousness wanted man to remain free to do good and to glorify his Creator. For thousands of years since man's appearance on earth ignorance and religious lies have been used to make men slaves to greedy, oppressive men and organizations. The Creator's time has come to set men free. He is sending out his truth to lift men out of ignorance and to free them from the lies that keep men in slavery. His truth is now out to make all lovers of righteousness free. No power on earth can now prevent its triumph. Freedom-giving truth is universal. Truth, like the facts of proved science, is for all mankind. Truth does not belong exclusively to Americans, to Russians or to peoples of any other national group. Truth is progressive, it enlightens and it results in blessings for all. Truth brings its lovers together, it unites. To the contrary, hiding the truth or refusing to learn the truth holds back true advancement. Misunderstandings then arise and wars are caused. All peoples living on earth have the moral right to hear the truth. To the seekers of truth it is promised: "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."-John 8:32.

According to the will of earth's Creator the earth and its abundance of good things are destined to be the happy heritage of all earth's inhabitants. Earth's dwellers are to live together in peace in one world community of helpful neighbors. Men are longing to enjoy the fruits of their works. An undreamed-of high state of prosperity lies ahead. No more will earth's population be plagued and made poor by wars, disease and death. Nor are they to be dominated and exploited by any so-called master racial group or bloc of nations. No longer will scientific and spiritual truth be monopolized by the few to the hurt of the many. To this end the floodgates of truth have been opened and its waters are flowing to all corners of the earth. Persons everywhere may therefore ask: Where can one get this universal truth? Is it understandable? Are its sources reliable? What will getting this truth mean for me and my family? Does this truth indicate a happy future for man here on this earth, or is there to be migration from this earth somewhere into outer space? For answers to these questions we must all consider certain plain, undeniable facts.

Truth conforms to fact. Truth is in harmony with the actual state of things. Two great sources of universal truth are available to man today, and they are in harmony with each other. The first source is what is called nature, where a vast storehouse of fact is found. Many truths from nature have been known by man for ages. But in these last fifty years more secrets of nature have been unlocked than in all of man's previous history. These discoveries are known as true science. This truthful knowledge belongs to all mankind and is to be made available to everyone. This earthly globe with its treasure of nature is itself a teacher of truth. Likewise earth's stellar neighbors in space have many things to teach man as facts, truth. All nature's revelations of truth are consistent. They demonstrate the existence of order and harmony.

In every part of this globe nature is operating to teach the same truths. Everything is bound up together into a complete whole. All things on earth travel along with the one undivided planet as it spins on its axis, making one complete rotation every single day. For this reason a period of daylight is enjoyed in which much activity is undertaken, followed by a period of nightfall for rest and recuperation. Inanimate sunlight bathes the earth with a mighty continuous surge of heat and energy. Inanimate bodies of land and water comprise the surface of the globe. Yet these in themselves, being inanimate, are not living. The hand that made all these inanimate wonders must be truly great. Just as the man who makes a material chair or table is greater than the furniture he makes, so nature teaches the truth that the Maker of earth and all its material parts must be greater than that which is made.
