Do you find attending a group bible study boring? Or do you attend just to have a social life?

I do not find a group Bible study boring at all. Its actually one of the times I look forward to because you hear a lot of views from people. Talk about sharing knowledge. You will be surprised at some views - could make turning points in people's lives. I dont understand how Bible study has become an avenue for socila life - do you party there?

Do you find attending a group bible study boring? Or do you attend just to have a social life?
Depends upon who is leading the Bible study in my opinion. I've gone for both reasons, fellowshipping and study. It didn't matter why I went, I was sent for a learning purpose. The worst Bible studies are where the leader doesn't allow open discussion. Yes then it is boring because the leader is just up there listening to himself talk. A Bible study is possible to be done correctly in an open format discussion with someone leading who is comfortable in the Scriptures and who is in a comfortable relationship with God in their personal life.

I've met very nice and available folks at Bible studies.

God's in the whole mix anyhow. Even if we don't see it at the time.

My suggestion, go to several Bible studies for about 6 weeks and compare and then you will know which to attend faithfully.

:)
Reply:Don't go in either case.

If you read the Bible, do it on your own and draw your own conclusions rather that having someone teach you "how" to read it.

Many... or I should say most Bible schools preach the Pauline Gospel about blood for sin, rather than the Original Kingdom Gospel that Jesus actually preached. There is a difference.

The first stirs the emotions... and the second is truly a Spiritual Gospel. This resource explains the difference.
Reply:I have attended several different Bible Studies over the years and have found most of them interesting if for nothing else the twisted way Scripture is taught.
Reply:I enjoy group Bible study. Perhaps your group isn't allowing discussion. Yeh lecture formats can be boring. Maybe you should look for another group.
Reply:I went to a Bible Study for some weeks until I had taken up volleyball at a local junior college just for fun, which volleyball was going on while Bible Study was going on. I go to Bible Study to gain knowledge to use on a day-to-day basis. To grow closer to the Lord.
Reply:I go to learn what God has in store for me. I'm not always taken away by the content, but the purpose is served in learning what God has for me. I do also go for some fellowship, however, the real reason I'm there is to learn and be ready to recieve from God.
Reply:boring, but i would do it for my boleif. I don't really like socializing with bible freaks which some of them are. Ifi told them i didn't go to church ofen they'd probably give me a lecture or somthing. I rather socialize in my bedroom with my boyfriend and i also pray there..lol
Reply:I find the Bible interesting. Mainly because my group is made up of a bunch of nerds who want to analyze everything to death. So we also talk about historical culture, various theological interpretations, anthropology, and sociology as they all relate to the subject. Plus we're okay with different opinions within the group. If it was a more "superficial" type of Bible study (without the analysis and thought), then it might be more boring.
Reply:I go for the chicks. Those religious girls are freaks once you get them to relax.
