Do you think a condo association should have the right to ban bible study inside the units of the association?

I believe that no one has the right to tell people how they should practice their beliefs. However certain people are trying to change the Bylaws pertaining to the rules and regulations and this topic has come up. I think its ridiculous.

Do you think a condo association should have the right to ban bible study inside the units of the association?
If the study group isn't interfering with anyone else, i.e. being loud, taking place at unreasonable hours, handling poisonous snakes, people exclaiming at the top of their lungs 'Jesus has saved me!', then fainting on the floor (even a 125 pound person can make quite a thud.), I don't think that the association can legally prevent people from practicing their beliefs. It's when a person's beliefs interfere with other peoples rights ,that's when the rambunctious party needs to rein it in.
Reply:Keep on praying!! no one can tell you what you can do in your home. check out the American Center for Law and Justice. they can advocate for you if they keep trying to ban Bible studies. (which, by the way, are banned in China. punishment can be inprisonment or death, which many people take the risk for) and heck, why just have a

Bible study, start your own home church !!!
Reply:No, I think the first amendment pretty much protects the tenants' rights on this one. Freedom of religion is a right... something people can't be instructed to do or not do based on the association's rules.
Reply:If the condo community is originally set up as an enclave for other religious beliefs or non beliefs, as a way of protecting the residents from outside belief systems. Then those that either "convert" or are there on false pretenses should move on.

If the condo community is "generic" then no. Live and let live. As long as there is respect for the other residents, changing the rules would be outrageous.
Reply:it seems to be getting worse and worse
Reply:What country is this?! that is so wrong!!!! I would see about having them prosecuted cuz worship is a right.
Reply:Not only is it ridiculous, it's unconstitutional. They are opening themselves up for a huge lawsuit. The constitution gives every person the right to practice his or her religion. A condo association has no right to limit that practice.
Reply:i think people pay too much association as it is so people should be able to do what they please. Whether that be reading the bible or worshiping the devil. To each their own. Association Bites!!
Reply:Common sense would say they don't, but if it's a private group, they are likely within their powers to do that. Sad, but probably true.
Reply:Absolutely not!!

Beware of attempts to call it something other than what it is (religious discrimination) - i.e., if they start saying it's because it causes parking problems, or noise, or whatever. Be ready for that. And if it passes you might want to contact the Fair Housing Administration.
Reply:No one should have the right to tell others they can not have bible study in the privacy of their own homes.
Reply:I wouldn't think so. The community I live in, we take votes for such things. If this is voted down.... you would have the right to have a Bible study with your friends in the privacy of your own home.
Reply:Yes they should, YOU may own the condo or unit, but THEY ultimately own the property and are ultimately responsible for what takes place on their property.
Reply:That would violate the Constitution of the US. That is not a taxpayer facility. It is a private residence. If they initiate that, sue the Association and the board. An attorney can collect all his/her fees.

They should have more sense and consult with their own attorney.
Reply:that's ridiculous!!! next thing you know they will be telling you what your bedtime is!!
Reply:Yes, but allowing it is a two way street. Some people include it in their wills that if their children are to inherit anything those children must remain christian or go to some sort of Church. Why don't you quit complaining. If someone wants to hold a bible study, then they should move to another condo. It's private property.
Reply:Private property is private property.

If you are using your condo for the study, they can't restrict it except for secular reasons (e.g., too many people in a small unit is a violation of fire codes)

If you are using common areas (owned by the association, not you), then they have the right to restrict it.
Reply:I dont think they can govern what goes on inside the four walls of a condo--the people own their units.
Reply:No. Homeowners associations can only interfere if the bible study is causing problems with noise, traffic, neighborhood cleanliness, clubhouse scheduling conflicts, etc. Other than those issues, what you do in the privacy of your own home is your business, and an HOA has no right or authority over it.

Ask what the core issue is (traffic, noise, etc) and show them how you're going to solve it. There shouldn't be much more to do than that.

best wishes
Reply:NO, as long as the religious people don't kick up a fuss if other groups of people (non-believers) want to use the units for things. Live and let live.
Reply:i think there is something unconstitutional about that. They may have a right to say ban people from putting up flyers to invite people to bible study- but it's your house- you have the right to invite people in to do whatever you want to do. As long as you are not disturbing any of the other residents they do not have that right. Wow- that's crazy!
Reply:I don't think they should be able to ban bible study per se, but

they may be able to ban meetings of large numbers of people

with lots of cars, etc.

I would be concerned if there was anything happening in this

study that would effect the neighbors (loud noises, etc.) but

otherwise, I don't see how they can treat it differently than any

other meeting (say, a book club) with the same number of

participants.
Reply:God, help us all!

You have the right to Bible study in your home or anyone else...

People can't dictate what you do in your home.

Grace to you and God Bless!
Reply:They should not have the right. There is a growing number of supposedly legislation against religion. The devil is working overtime.
Reply:NO, if condo association insurance does not repair sheetrock, or damages to the interrior of a home/condo, then the same association should not be allowed to govern what goes on within those walls
Reply:Provided the subject matter isn’t illegal, you can reach an agreement to do or refrain from doing almost anything. Theoretically then… if you were thinking of buying a condo unit and the bylaws already disallowed bible study in individual units, and you nonetheless bought the unit after reading that... why should you be released from your promise in this regard? On the other hand though, assuming that “bible study” takes place solely within your unit and also is not something that violates some other pre-existing but neutral bylaw (like excessive noise – maybe you pray REALLY loudly ;-), there would be no way to get a court to enforce a new rule of that sort.
Reply:It sounds like there is more to this. Is the Bible study a huge gathering? Is there loud music? Loud prayer? Tons of cars and people? And is this a "mainstream" gathering or is the "Bible" referred to something far different?

Way too many unanswered questions to just jump on this bandwagon...
Reply:no they shouldnt... dont let up... if you want to practice your religion there as long as it isnt hurth=ing some one they have no right to tell you you cant... dont back down also! that is the reason things are like they are now... we kept lettig them take little things away from us ... it almost seems like if keep letting them take away the rights we have towards practising our religion it may one day be like it is in china in which you can be killed for having a single page of the bible....dont give in because we are in spiritual warfare against principalities
Reply:Absolutely not, that's an invasion of privacy, CONDO-NAZIS
Reply:I do not see why it should be banned... It is not like you are hurting anyone...
Reply:No, that is rediculous.

However so is taking GOD out of our sshools, and GOVERNMENT.
