Is the bible the only appropriate form of study or do other books hold just as much value and truth?

some ppl believe the bible is the only book that teaches the truth, but what about other books like the ones at the end of the catholic bible are they ok? what do you think

Is the bible the only appropriate form of study or do other books hold just as much value and truth?
There are TONS of other appropriate study... However, no other book holds as much value... PERIOD.

And the truth there is not just the 1+1=2 kind... It's the ALL-IMPORTANT life application kind that's so needed (and all-too ignored) in today's world... The Apochrypha (additional Catholic books you've mentioned) were rejected as Scripture centuries ago...
Reply:The Bible the only book that teaches the truth??? *headdesk* Depends what your opinion of truth is. The people that tell you only the Bible teaches truth believe that the only truth is the Bible. This circular reasoning is meaningless. By that same reasoning, the Koran is the only truth, and I bet you'll find a lot of people in this country challenging that idea.

Spiritual "truth" in my opinion is a journey of learning about yourself, about your fellow humans, about your environment and about what you can do to make the world a better place. Anything that teaches you to be a better person speaks the truth, whether it be a rose, a book, a hymn, or words of gratitude coming from a neighbor's mouth when you help him/her carry groceries. Never limit your sources of knowledge.
Reply:The Bible has more historical support for accuracies than other books from the BC and early AD years.

As for value and truth, read the Bible and see what is inside. You will be able to judge for yourselve that it is full of wisdom and truth.
Reply:Bible is one of them. There are many good books that teaches value and truth.
Reply:get to know your bible its a letter from God.
Reply:beauty is in the eye of the beholder. what is honey to one person may be bitter to another. read all and make your own choices. you are the master of your own faith//
Reply:I have read a number of Religious Texts (Christian and otherwise). It is true that their is a basic structure is the same, that what fleshes them out (the rules and rituals) is different. I have read a number of Philosophers and Diaries...... again, structures are the same. The more you read, the more you train your eye to cull out the self-serving lies, the closer you get to truth. And if you come back to where you started? Then your eyes will see the Truth you always looked at, but never SAW.
Reply:I think you should not only read, but pray about what you read, I find there are tons of good books that have good messages, the book of Mormon, the Koran, the Torah, and the Bible. But pray about the messages to see what the truth is that you learn
Reply:I think I have to respect those who believe that even as I myself question it.

But I do find myself questioning it as the single authoritative source. This of course sets me apart from a great many fellow Christians who sincerely believe the Bible to be the word of God.

My fear of course is that the word of man has found its way into this work and we must be wary that we do not too blindly follow what "man" has written.
Reply:How about the Tao de ching? The Bhagavad gita? The Qu'uran? Only fundamentalists would say that the Bible is the only book that teaches the truth. Truly educated people learn from many different sources.
Reply:I believe that there is no book smarter than the Bible because religion is very strong and you should listen very hard to what you believe in.
Reply:There is truth... and then there is TRUTH. You can get true facts and figures from practically any book, or truth according to one person's point of view and opinion, but the Bible is the only inerrant word of God and source of universal truth.

As for the extra books in the catholic bible, they come from unreliable sources.
Reply:Many historical books back up the things that are written in the Bible. But many books are written in to reflect that persons views and beliefs which may not be the truth. The Bible is clear that anyone who adds to the word even one line over a word or dot or takes away from the word is in danger of Hell. Many religions have "bibles" that they say go with the Bible or take the place of it. And they contradict the word in one way or another.

A good rule of thumb is: Read the Bible and know it first before picking up anything and then while you read ask the Holy Spirit for discernment and the Lord will let you know if what you read is accurate or not.
Reply:The Bible is the one truth that you can just know to be true!!:))
Reply:Books and teachers can only talk "about" Truth, not teach it. Truth is self-evident. You have to see it for yourself to have the real thing. Anything indirect is only alluding to Truth.

Hint: Truth is wordless. As soon as you put a name on something, you have limited it to only a symbol standing in the place of Truth.

Reply:That's what I was told at the Absolute Truth Bible School and Family Vacation Center of America Camp Ground.
Reply:depends
Reply:I think that it doesn't matter what I, or others here, think. It really only matters what you think. You have a mind that the Creator/God/Allah/I AM gave you. Use it and read about all different kinds of philosphies. Then decide for yourself what you feel is YOUR truth.
Reply:mi no know
Reply:Truth? What establishes the truth?

I prefer to go with my senses and the measurable.

Biblical drivel is for gutless snivelers who fear their shadows and leaves rustling at night.

If you want truth, go to bfskinner.org, download "The Analysis of Behavior". Is any of this disputable? It is certainly replicable. The mention of B.F. Skinner terrifies true believers and for good reason.

On second thought, you better not even look.
Reply:The truth is, in my opinion, that these things have been written by people. Influenced by God or not. Its quite possible people with power throught the ages have changed the bible. But anyways, its all a good message, but you have to find the truth within yourself; or the bible means nothing.
Reply:not the only apparopriate form, but others don't hold as much value %26amp; truth
Reply:The bible is the truth-it is our rule book from God. The more you read it, and live by it, the more you will understand it. It is kind of like only being able to see a little and the more you read and study the Bible, the better your sight becomes.
Reply:All religious texts are just that. There are a lot of lies and a lot of truth in all of them. It is all in the interpretation. Bible is just another one of them.
Reply:The Bible is the truth according to Christians. Like all religions, it is a belief. I think the truth should come from our obligation as human beings to accept each other for what they believe in. Once we accept each other, then we can see that the truth is all perception.
Reply:Google may help.
Reply:the bible is complete fiction, it was written over 600 yrs by who knows how many peeps. the only truth in books is in science that is proven fact
Reply:Mark Twain once said, "The Bible is a book drenched in blood, with a few bits of good advice, and a thousand lies."
Reply:The bible should only be studied as a wok of fiction - a myth.
Reply:I think you should try reading Hustler Magazine - it has far more relevance to today's world.
Reply:I think you should read about all religions. I think you should read as many books as you possibly can on a variety of topics, not just religion.
