My assingment is to ask several people's opinions for the following questions (I need to finish it by tonight!):
1.What is sin?
2.Are all people sinners?
3.Do people become sinners or do they sin because they are sinners?
4.(Assuming that you believe in God) What is God's penalty for sin, if any?
5.Are there penalties that occur on earth for sins in a person's daily life?
If you choose to answer, please answer all of the questions and be honest. Thanks so much! Oh, if you could list your sources too that'd be great!
I needs several people to answer the following questions for my Bible study group:?
bible study group?
why don't you study a book that will help you in life?
i suggest some TinTin.
Reply:Hi frodobaggins115.
1. Sin is transgression against God's Law. When ever we rebel aginist God (not doing his will) we are sinning. God tells us in 1John 3:4 sin is rebeling against His law:
"Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness."
2. Yes, all people are sinners and God tells us in His word, the Bible, that we are all sinners. In Romans 3:9-11:
"What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10 As it is written:
“ There is none righteous, no, not one;
11 There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God."
But God goes on to tell us in 1 Peter 4:18 that there is one who is righteous and that one is Jesus Christ:
"Now If the righteous one is scarcely saved,
Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
3. We are born into sin, we read in Romans 5:12:
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"
Can we be sent to Hell because we inherited (being the offspring of Adam) the "sin" Adam did in the garden of Eden? That is not what the Bible teaches. Anyone who is sent to Hell will be sent there because of their own sin, not Adam's. In Romans 2:5-6 God states:
"But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of judgment of God; who will render to every man according to his deeds."
4. The penalty for sin is eternal damnation. And without a sin bearer you will spend eternaty in Hell. That one sin bearer is Jesus Christ. God tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:10 we will stand before him for Judgment:
"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in HIS BODY, according to that HE HATH DONE, whether it be good or bad."
5. Penalties on earth? If you get caught stealing or murdering someone you will be put in jail these are the laws of man, Drug and alcohol abuse also have their penalties, but God tells us who we should fear in Luke 12:4-5:
“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!"
We cannot blame Satan for making us sin. Any sin we commit is our own sin and that will have to be accounted to God. We are all misrable rotten sinners, including you and including me, and we all need the Lamb of God to pay for our sins. God tells us who the Lamb is in John 1:29:
"The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
Reply:1. sin -- moral offense or shortcoming.
2. yes-all are sinners
3. sin is instilled in us as early as in the womb
4. eternal darkness
5. yes, we have baggage we can carry and path to unhappiness and sinful ways.
you are welcome! Good Luck and God Bless!!
Reply:1sin is a man made creation to describe things that he thinks are bad
2no they arent
3as long as you dont hurt anyone doing what you do i dont think you are sinnig
4i think this god if he/her/it is real is probably jealous cause man can sin whereas people always say god cant sin so if this god cant do something we can he/her/it is either jealous or not god
5if you believe so you can go to jail for the things you consider sin
Reply:1. Disobedience to God, this includes thoughts and actions.
2. Yes (Romans 3:23)
3. All people are born with a sin nature.
4. Death (Romans 6:23)
5. Yes, I think anytime you sin you are outside of the protection of God, until you confess and get right with Him.
Reply:1. Anything that goes against God's teaching
2. All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, yes all people are sinners.
3. We are born pure, but become sinners, because that is just the way we are...refer to #2.
4. The wages of sin is death, but through him you can have eteranal life.
5. I think there are, but only if you are a Christian. I believe the non-christians don't get punished because they are not God's children. We are his children, and like a parent, he punishes us when we do wrong.
disobeying god's law
2.Are all people sinners?
yes, all people are born with the sin of their ancestors. (adam and eve)
(Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 5:12
[ Death Through Adam, Life Through Christ ] Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—)
3.Do people become sinners or do they sin because they are sinners?
people sin because they are born sinners.
4.(Assuming that you believe in God) What is God's penalty for sin, if any?
god gives salvation through forgiveness, but if you do not repent your sins and ask for forgiviness the penatly is eternal life in hell.
(Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.)
5.Are there penalties that occur on earth for sins in a person's daily life?
penalties can be as little as a slap on the hand, or guilt, to jail, death sentance, harm of loved ones.
guilt is believed to be put here by god as another penalty for our actions.
Reply:Hi all, I don't want to hijack this thread but I saw some intersting comments that I wanted to reply to. the first is about dinosaurs and how old is the earth. first we need to remember that written history only goes back to about 5,200 years ago. There is no proof of anything older than that.
Some people try to rely on carbon 14 dating, the problem is, if you are using carbon 14 dating, you have to assume that the carbon reservoir remained constant all the way back through history. This cannot be proven. Their conclusion will be a guess at best.
Carbon 14 dating is very accurate up to about 13,000 years. After that it varies, and it varies wildly.
I was at a musem a while back and there was a display of dinosaur bones. The sign said the bones were between 60,000 and 100,000 years old. That's a margin of 40,000 years for mistake. That is not science my friend, that's guess work.
Good luck with that study group they can be very instresting!
Willful disobedience to God’s commandments.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper, Prov. 28: 13. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow, Isa. 1: 18. Sinners shall die, and the righteous shall be saved, Ezek. 18. The Lamb of God taketh away the sins of the world, John 1: 29. Be baptized, and wash away thy sins, Acts 22: 16. The wages of sin is death, Rom. 6: 23. To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin, James 4: 17. Wilt thou make me that I may shake at the appearance of sin, 2 Ne. 4: 31. Wo unto all those who die in their sins, 2 Ne. 9: 38. They could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence, Alma 13: 12. Do not suppose ye will be restored from sin to happiness, Alma 41: 9-10. The Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance, Alma 45: 16 (D%26amp;C 1: 31). Little children are not capable of committing sin, Moro. 8: 8. To repent, men must confess and forsake their sins, D%26amp;C 58: 42-43. The greater sin remains in him who forgives not, D%26amp;C 64: 9. He who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation, D%26amp;C 82: 3. Unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, D%26amp;C 82: 7. When we undertake to cover our sins, the heavens withdraw themselves, D%26amp;C 121: 37.
2.Are all people sinners?
All people have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. All people are in need of repentance but there are some more than others.
3.Do people become sinners or do they sin because they are sinners?
I don't think people are born sinnful, to become sinnful one must willfully act against the commandments of God.
4.(Assuming that you believe in God) What is God's penalty for sin, if any?
I think the entire chapter of Ezekiel 18 gives and indepth answer. The short answer is that sin causes the Holy Ghost to depart from our lives. If we are unrepentant of our sins, ultimately we will be found unworthy to return to our Heavenly Father's presence because no unclean thing can endure the presence of God.
5.Are there penalties that occur on earth for sins in a person's daily life?
I don't believe it is exactly "quid pro quo", this for that. There are consequences for everything that we do. When we sin and remove ourselves from his presence, spirit and direction, we're on our own and are without his protection or guidence. For example, I think there are cases in the scriptures where God and cursed a father's child to death because of the father's sin. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm thinking of David and the child he had with Bath-sheba. Other than that I don't believe a child dies as a part of God's punishment to the mother or father. If a child dies because of the parents sin, that is more likely the consequence, not punishment of sin. All men have their free agency but are not free from the consequences in using that agency.
Reply:Sin is to harm yourself or others
No one is by nature a sinner we are children of God
People are human and make mistakes, but God loves
Proper instruction on the correct path
You receive in life what you give in life
Reply:Sin is what the Bible calls as "Inherited",from the time Adam %26amp; Eve diobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and it was passed down to us to this day! Yes all people are 'sinners',Like the Bible says in the Book of Genesis quoating from the New Translation of the Holy Scriptures,Satan was the one who caused Eve to temp Adam with the fruit ,in which God said you have all this Paradise,it is yours to have ,But do Not Eat from this one Tree, the Tree of Knowledge! And Satan was very active at that time to and to this day!
Genenis Chapter 3:1-24 should help you with the fisrt and second question.People are Born Imperfect ! And all have the Inherited sin with us!
The Bible says :Sin is a Violation of Gods Law: read 1John 3:4;5;17 Romans 4:12 %26amp; 2:2-15 also Psalms 103:8, 10, 14,17 Galations 3:18 1john 3:8 Romans 5:12-18 Genesis 2:17 %26amp;18 Matthew 12:32 Hebrews6:4-8 it will explain "SIN" !
God is Love and Forgives us of our daily Sins! We must ask in order to recieve his Blessings.
My Source is from the "New Translation of the Holy Scriptures",it is a Bible I use daily and it is put in a form that makes studing the Word of God easier to read and understand.I am imperfect and as we all are,but I truely believe god judges us each as individuals and not as a whole. We are forgiven of our sins ,that is why there is death, that is the ultmate wages of sin,but God Loves You and he is a Forgiving God! I hope this was some comfort and help to you.
Reply:1. Sin is any thing against the will of God.
2. All are born with a sin nature. I have never met a child that did not lie instinctivly
3. see#2 above
4. The only eternal penalty for sin is for those who are entering Heaven. sin keeps one from doing good. so those will receive fewer rewards(jewels in their crowns) in Heaven. It is not sin that keeps one out of heaven, nor is it sin that sends one to hell. being consigned to hell is the result of rejection of God.
5. the sins one commits usualy have some negative concequence... sooner or latter.
I recomend gettiing a good study Bible. As you are in a "Bible study group". I recomend The Ryery Study Bible in The KJV or New American Sandard(updated)... It is better if you look them up for yourself...
Reply:1, wrong and hateful doings against others
2.yes ,we all have done wrong in our life time ..some not so bad but it is still considered being a sinner..
3. People become sinners for what ever reason they choose .
4.God will separate the sinners from the non sinners ...
5.yes by prison. jail. death.
My source is my source coming from my opinions on it..
Reply:1. Falling short of the mark. Failing to live up to the righteous standard of God

As it is written: “ There is none righteous, no, not one;
3.Because we are sinners.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,And in sin my mother conceived me

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death,
5.Yes
Galatians 6:7
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Reply:Add two more questions to your bible study:
1) How come the bible preached that the earth was the center of the universe, and then "changed" its opinion once the scientific evidence became overwhelming that it was wrong?
2)How come the bible does not mention dinosaurs? I mean we find so many big bones belonging to those animals how come no mention? Also when anyone does carbon dating on the bones they are millions of years old... weird huh?
Reply:1. Separation from the will of God.
2. Yes.
3. We are born into sin.
4. The wages of sin is death.
5. Yes. When a person continues to sin, they erode their lives and spirit. "What profit a man to gain the whole world and leave his soul?" There is no true joy outside the will of the one true God. There is a hole inside us that nothing can fill except the great I Am.
Reply:I'm Wiccan...
1. A sin for me is disrespecting nature and the powers that be and not appreciating my life.
2. Yes and no.... a sinner is defined by their religious beliefs and conflicts. No two are the same.
3. Situationally based. Sometimes a "sin" is required to combat evil and wrong things.
4. For witches, the Goddess doesn't give the penalty, Karma and the three fold law does.
5. Yes.... Karma again.
Reply:1. Sin is the willful act of rebelling against God.
2. All people are born sinners. - I don't care who you are or what you believe, this one is obvious.
3. Once again, we are born sinners, and I don't understand why we continue to sin sometimes even after being saved or when we don't want to. But thats what makes God's love and forgiveness all the more wonderful.
4. God's penalty for sin is death, yet, because he loves us so much, he sent his son to take the punishment for us. All you have to do is believe, and yes, obey his commands.
5. I think usually yes, our sins do affect us here on earth, sometimes months or years down the road. Sometimes you will suffer for a past sin even after you have been saved; don't be mad when it happens because you know you deserve it.
To the asker- feel free to use my answers if ya want, but please at least change the wording, and also let me say stay in the church and don't give up.
To anyone who may be rolling their eyes at my answers- hey don't take it from me just open a Bible. If you do not believe in the Bible but you do believe in God, just ask him then.
To atheists- I have nothing to say to you monkeys.
To Rocket Science- your website is rediculously opinionated and not a really good source, as for carbon dating...sheesh and you say the Bible is inconsistant? Yes carbon dating says that bones are millions of years old, but do you know how it works? It would take much too much typing to explain, but I suggest you research it because it is a VERY inaccurate source, which is only some-what accepted because it "supports" the THEORY of evolution. All other evidence points to the world being 7-10 thousand years old, just ask any scientist secular or non. You want proof of creation? Go outside and look around and find just ONE thing that got there by accident...and I'm not talking about litter.
Reply:1. Anything that seperates you from God
2. Yes
3. Because they are sinners.
4. Death
5. Not since the cross. We are in the age of grace. But before then-yes.
Reply:1. Sin is the willful turning away from God through thought, words, or actions. There are also sins of omission (not doing what you are supposed to do).
2. Mary and Jesus are the only people who never sinned.
3. People sin because it is human nature.
4. God's penalty for unrepented serious sin is hell. Penalty for repented serious sin or less serious sin is Purgatory, which will eventually lead to Heaven.
5. You can make sacrifices that they can offer up as repentance for the sins they have committed.
God bless,

Sin is anything and everything that goes against God. That could be thoughts, desires, actions...and so on. There are many ways scripture speaks of sin, Two of the more important are "missing the target" and " falling short of God"
#2
Yes, ALL people are sinners.
#3
Both -We are born into sin, and we sin because we are sinners.
We are selfish beings that follow our flesh instead of the spirit.
#4
The Bible says that God will discipline us for our actions. I wouldn't call it penalty, but rather discipline if you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
This may include illness, hardship, earthly battles, and other situations in our lives that keep us in battle. Just as parents discipline their children, God will do that same to us. This is done to bring us to where we need to be.
Penalty for the non believer is spiritualy death- separation from God. Full penalty for sin, includes both spiritual and physical death ( Romans 6:23; 7:13)
However, this doesn't mean that every illness or battle is a discipline from God. Satan plays a HUGE role in casting out pain and suffering on us. Either way, we need to place our hope and faith in the Lord and He alone will get us get through whatever it is.
Suffering/discipline can be a result of Satanic affliction- example(JOB 1-2)
or as a result of Gods discipline - example (Hebrews 12:5-11)

Again, Yes, God may discipline us on earth for sins in our lives.
By reading the Bible you will see many times throughout the Bible people were disciplined and even killed because of their sins.
NOTE: This is not intended to place judgement on anyone or their beliefs, only to answer your questions using scripture from the BIble.

Reply:You get assignments in bible study classes? I thought you just read passages and chanted "God is great" all through the session. Besides going through that boredom, they give you homework? Ugh....
Reply:1. Sin is disobedience to God.
2. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
3. People are born sinners.
4. Eternal death in hell.
5. Yes. All sin has its consequences in this life, as well as in the next if that sin is not repented.
