In The Bible it talks about the land of Israel and the land of Judah. There's even a map in the back that shows the Philistine, Israel, and Judah borders.
Israel and Judah are two separate groups of people?
Bible Study question about Israel and Judah, thoughts?
Judea broke away from the confederation of Hebrew tribes and the two fought a Civil War. While Israel was weakened, Assyria was becoming the dominant Empire in the region and they wiped Israel of off the map. Literally. Ten of the twelve Israeli tribes gone. This happened in 722 BCE.
Only the Jews (tribe of Judah, Kingdom of Judea) remained. That is why we only refer to Jews today. They are the only surviving tribe. The Benjamites were a smaller tribe that eventually lost any distinction from the Jews.
The Assyrians exported the surviving Hebrews to other lands and imported other conquered tribes to Israel and renamed it Samaria. They are the ones referred to as Samaritans. They adopted the Hebrew religion, but the Jews refused to accept them as followers of the same God because they were not Hebrews. Basic racism at work.
P.S. nightcrayon, The original Philistines were also wiped out at the same time. The name is the same though, (Philistine/Palestine) but the inhabitants are not related. The modern Israelis are descendants of Judah. The Israelites no longer exist and haven't for several thousand years.
Much of the Bible is a rewrite after the Babylonian captivity. The Jews erased much of the evidence of the primary god of Israel, EL and replaced him with their tribal god YHVH. In the first Creation story of Genesis chapter one, it is still EL who creates everything. The rewrite is in chapter two where YHVH is the primary god.
Reply:Israel is the promised land granted by Yahweh. After King Solomon's death, Israel was divided into 2: Israel in the North and Judah in the South. The Israelites were conquered and assimilated to the religion of their conquerers. Judah remained worshipping Yahweh as best they could. The people of Judah are descendents of Ishmael, son of Abraham.
So in the beginning, these two lands had a huge group of people that believed in the religion of Yahweh.
But, after the division, the two lands had different religious beliefs. Judah mostly worshiped Yahweh and Israel worshipped gods other than Yahweh.
Reply:Yes, they were.
Reply:They were one nation under King David and King Solomon. Then when Solomon's son Rehoboam would not relieve the taxes the nation split. Jeroboam became king of the ten tribes to the north, and two tribes, Benjamin and Judah remained with Rehoboam.
Reply:They are the same people, but because of the sin of solmans son God split, the tribes.
Reply:Well Israel and Judah came are in a way two seperate parts of Israel, but they are all Hebrews. Israel consisted of 12 tribes, the children of Jacob (aka Israel Josephs dad) but when Israel got a King thigs started going sour, Saul was there first King and screwed up really really bad so God made David their new King. Now I believe it was in Davids reign that another King came up and took Davids throne for a time, so David was stuck without His Kingdom, but then He gathered men together and took the throne again, but somewhere in all the confusion with the two different Kings the tribe of Judah became somewhat seperated from the others, I guess becuase theyre were so many men in that tribe and it was powerful enough to be its own Kingdom. So now the King is referred to as being King over Israel and Judah, because Judah has a kind of independance, but is still one of the original tribes so its included. But then when you get to the book of Kings there are seperate Kings ruling of Judah and over Israel, and theyre always at war with each other, and so eventually they just get identified as completely apart. hope this helps, study some more tho, cus its been a while since i sstudied it. Look towards the end of 2 Samuel, and the beginning of 1 Kings. God Bless
Reply:After Solomon was turned to idols by his 1000 wives and did evil in the sight of God the Kingdom of Israel was doomed. Solomon's Son Rehoboam allowed a war to take place within the kingdom of Israel and the nation divided. The Southen Kingdom, with Jerusalem, was named Judah, mainly because the tribe of Judah occupied most of the land. The northern kingdom kept the name Israel. Both kingdoms ended up doing evil against God but Israel was the worst. After the 1st Century when Rome ran the Jews out of the land they renamed it Palestine. There is no connection with the Philistine of the ancient Bible times and the Palestine of the lasat 1900 years.
Reply:I don't understand your question.
